saw this tonight and was incredibly underwhelmed. I’m not sure if anyone has seen its earlier run last year downtown, but I was so excited about it because both the playwright and the director are both working actors and I wanted to support.

man, was this show confusing and a torture to sit through. the characters are largely unlikeable, especially the lead character Charlie who doesn’t want to leave her apartment because she is extremely pessimistic about climate change. she watches documentaries about climate change all day, eats maybe only peanut butter, and makes cupcakes. she just repeats doing these three things throughout the show.

her best friend/room mate is a gay man, the typical gay best friend you can find in any show, that somehow can tolerate her negativity.

a man that delivers her gay best friend’s groceries one day falls in love with her, but she doesn’t want to go outside or want to be intimate with him.

she has a mother that is self-centered and doesn’t care for her.

basically this is the whole show that you need to sit through. I find it depressing and bad.

also need to mention this theater doesn’t have a working AC and it was so hot.

i wouldn’t recommend this show but am happy to see if people think differently.

Does anyone have an explanation for why the creative team chose to use a conch for the poster for The Potluck at SoHo Rep? I saw it tonight and didn’t get any references to a conch - except for they have potluck on the beach?

I’ve recently been pondering if development economics within all fields of applied economics, is a field that is mostly an elite researchers’ game.

Researchers with PhDs from top universities and work with chairs and committee members who are big names get great research pipelines, get to write funding proposals as co-PI, enjoy the best network, resources, and access to data, while those who are in mid universities have to fight for breadcrumbs?

Or, you are not from an elite university but you come from one of the developing countries and have connections with local government, universities, or data sources; or you speak the local language and can lead fieldwork. Big name PIs would also like to work with you because you bring something valuable to them.

What about the people in the middle? Those who don’t have elite PhDs or bring with them exclusive data/language/field experience? Is development not the best game for them to play?

Is it just me or do other people notice how many off-broadway and off-off-broadway shows are completely sold out this month?

Do you clash over different methods and standards between economics and public health?

Has the public health researcher dismissed your quest for clean identification, and criticize that you focus too much on identification but forget the underlying health mechanism?

Has the public health researcher made you feel like you are a stubborn, close-minded economist unwilling to try to adopt methods in public health, adjust your standard, and be adventurous?

I went to Music City currently in previews at St Luke’s Theatre and was very impressed!

The theater is turned into a Nashville country music bar/cafe and the show is immersive, so you have actors walking around and singing from different corners of the room. The music was so beautiful, and the cast is so so talented! They sing amazingly well and play the instruments themselves.

I like country music quite a lot and enjoyed Nashville the TV show. The story and vibes of this show feels very similar to Nashville, so if it’s your thing, you’re guaranteed a great time.

Please make a trip to 59E59 to see David Copperfield as part of the theater’s effort to bring British shows to NYC.

This is an innovative, funny, and incredibly physically-demanding show featuring only 3 actors portray dozens of characters with great precision and dedication. The actor for David is barely off-stage I wonder if he gets a sip of water! The other two actors were either on stage or doing quick change to go back on stage.

This is one of the most incredible acting I’ve ever seen. I‘m in awe. Please go check it out! Running until June 28.

73 seconds playing at an intimate planetarium. It’s about the writer trying to understand the past of his mother. Similar in theme to Liberation and Rheology.

I really wanted to like it but find it hard to invest in emotionally. >!The writer & performer Jared repeatedly asked the question ”What did my mother do at NASA?” And regrets that he will never get the answer. He made it sound like his mother made a personal sacrifice by choosing family over career, and that she kept her past with NASA as a secret. !<

>!I can’t help but wonder if she is truly a potentially great engineer/astronaut as he makes her out to be? Yes she worked for NASA out of college, but it was a contract job. Yes she was in the selection pool for the Challenger, but the teacher in space project wasn’t necessarily prestigious. Maybe she truly doesn’t have heroic stories to tell, not just because she has Alzheimer’s.!<

saw this show in the afternoon off-broadway at the players theatre. i think this is a very young adult show and doesn’t appeal to anyone above 25. if you’re an adult, skip this and see something else.
