Home too safe for protective services
Just wondering if it's worth moving forward with attempts for protective services. We had our in home visit today. I was told that since we have extra locks on the doors and windows that my son (7 years old level 3, mostly non verbal, eloper) hasn't figured out YET, that we wouldnt qualify for protective services. He has figured out the front door lock so the social worker said we could try to apply because of that but if we found a lock he couldn't figure out then they'd deny it.
She was here less than 5 minutes, most of it was over the phone, (My son's are just getting over being sick so she was trying to protect herself not faulting her for being cautious or anything) and she said she didn't see any actions from him that would lead to needing PS. He was hiding under the couch cushions the whole time. That's not his normal behavior on the daily.
What do I do? He needs constant within arms reach supervision. Has no sense of danger and loves dangerous behaviors. But hasn't gotten injured bad enough to need to go to the ER or doctor. Should I not have additional locks and alarms? He recently eloped through an emergency exit at an indoor playground and got a mile and a half from the place we were at before cops found him. He needs a 1 on 1 aid at school at all times because they know he is a danger to himself. I'm at a loss. Does he really not qualify? Should I not keep trying?
