The View and “affordable housing”

This might come off as a rant post, but I am truly interested in if there is demand for this in Madison.

My partner and I are apartment hunting, and fall into the 60% category to qualify for some affordable housing. We’ve been seen a decent amount of (non subsidized)1 bedrooms in the area for $1300-1500 or so. We then saw that Huxley yards was getting an affordable development, and decided to check it out. And… it’s $1440 per month for a 1 bed 1 bath apt.

I tend to think that affordable housing is a good thing for Madison, but…is this what it is? It just doesn’t seem like it’s more affordable than most of the cheaper options already out there…

The Monona Festival is a disaster waiting to happen

Ok, I know that this is is very old man (or young woman) yells at cloud, and I will probably get responses telling me to just have fun, but the festival was such a chaotic mess and it feels like it’s approaching dangerous territory.

SO many people brought sparklers, poppers, and spinners and were just setting them off in the middle of the crowd. It was also very dark which makes sense for the sake of being able to see fireworks, but the result was a massively over crowded park where you can barely see in front of you and loud bangs and sparks are going off all around you. People were also setting off actual fireworks from their yards “over” the crowd, which resulted in fireworks actively being shot towards the thousands of people gathered. While leaving we saw a fire truck with sirens completely at a stand still stuck in the massive crowd of people. It’s a great idea for an event but it just doesn’t feel like the infrastructure exists for it to be safe.

Best wireless headphones for someone with these priorities?

Ok, I know that you get a ton of these kinds of posts here, but I swear I looked through the backlog and couldn’t find anyone else with these exact same goals.

I am looking for a pair of budget wireless, over ear headphones for under $150, and I would love if they could come in under $100 if that happens to exist. I listen to a mix of music and podcasts, and have always been a wireless earbud person but got sick of losing them and having to dig for them in my bag.

I of course want the sound quality to be decent, but I am in no way a person who cares a ton about sound. As long as voices are crisp enough to understand in podcast and music doesn’t sound too tinny or muffled I’ll be happy. I also do not care at all about anc, it’s fine if they have it but it’s not a draw at all for me.

The biggest things I am looking for is comfort, durability, and ease of use. I want something I can just toss on and use for a couple of hours and then toss back in my bag until I need them again. Just something simple, reliable, and not too fragile. Any thoughts? Thanks so much!

Cheapest Madison gym with pool?

Hey y’all,

I am recently returning to Madison post college and looking to join a gym, with the primary goal of having somewhere to swim year round. I know that harbor athletic is often recommended, but it’s just so expensive at $70 per month. YMCA is better at $55 a month but I’m wondering if there is anywhere cheaper? I truly do not care about classes etc, I just want somewhere that I can swim for exercise and maybe occasionally use the exercise machines.
