why are you so good to me?

the guilt miwa felt while still having feelings for shiho while being in a relationship with saeko lwk broke me. to her, the choices were basically either chase your feelings and finally get it out of your system (and hopefully get with her) OR stick with what you’re used to with guaranteed stability but always wonder the what ifs. i’ll forever be grateful she had the guts to go with the former because bro idek i felt bad for everyone in this arc

now that i think about it, if i genuinely value my mental health, id stop coming back to HDWR because this shit is actually SAD SAD. it’s miserable yet it burns so good when you read it

miwas nosey ex-girlfriends

uhhh yeah! ok quickly: Tamaki is frowning because her break up w miwa wasn’t her choice, and she says she didn’t want it to happen multiple times, telling miwa that she loved her, and did allat even though she knew it was for the best. Meanwhile, Saeko is smiling and placed in front of Tamaki, brushing tamaki off basically, because although she and Miwa also broke up, they ended up getting back together and she was actually the one who broke things off in the first relationship… get it?
i had a genius pun in mind but it disappeared dawg oh my god wait i’ll be back once i remember ts

EDIT: OH I REMEMBER. ITS FUNNY CALLING THEM NOSEY WHEN THEY AINT GOT ONE thats such a bad joke im so sorry

How did Tamifull portray incompatibility in How Do We Relationship?

In How Do We Relationship?, Tamifull presents how relationships can become unsustainable even when both people are trying, because the way they experience love and respond to each other does not fully align with one another. She shows how things that seem completely manageable at the start can slowly turn into something that cannot be held together by using two of the main couples, Yuria and Saeko, and Tamaki and Miwa.
Both of their relationships don't start off with some huge incompatibility; if they had any, they wouldn’t have started dating in the first place after all. To the readers, it’s good, it’s affectionate, and it’s painfully clear that they love each other (It’s something that healed me after what happened in volume five with Miwasae).

Tamaki and Miwa’s relationship starts off in a way that feels genuine and stable. They love each other deeply, spend a lot of time together, and nothing immediately suggests that things will go south based on the first half of the relationship. One could even suggest that it’s way too perfect, which is quite unlikely in this manga since the author likes to stay in the grey area most of the time. Their differences, Miwa’s high sex drive and how she associates intimacy with feeling loved and Tamaki’s low libido, do not seem serious at first, nor does it seem like something that should break them up.
And for a while, it is something they’re able to work through. They’re able to meet each other in the middle, but the difference slowly shifts in meaning as time goes on. For Miwa, intimacy is tied to reassurance. It’s how she understands that she is loved and that the relationship is stable. But for Tamaki, it gradually starts feeling like something that feels expected of her. What was once neutral to her now seems like an obligation, something that she must do even when she is not comfortable. When they try to continue the relationship, Tamaki is often the one who gives in, which ends up creating a cycle where her discomfort is often overlooked by Miwa, shown in chapter 97.
Tamaki does reject Miwa’s advances at points, but those moments do not exactly resolve anything. It’s not until after the concert that she finally vocalizes her concerns and tells Miwa about how she actually feels. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work out well as Miwa is caught off guard and interprets the situation in an extreme way, instead of trying to negotiate or finding a middle ground, and decides to take it upon herself to preserve the relationship, and decides to suppress her own sexual attraction entirely. Tamaki recognises that this is not a real solution later on when Miwa reveals why she’d been putting distance between them, and reacts by trying to correct it in a way that makes sense to her, and she pushes intimacy back onto Miwa, thinking that if this is the issue, then leaning into it will resolve things. However, this response only makes things worse for Miwa, who ends up feeling disgusted with herself and conflicted because she knows she should reject what is happening but cannot bring herself to do so. And that’s when it finally clicks for her that something about this relationship is fundamentally wrong. At this point, the issue is no longer just their difference in intimacy, but what it has become over time. Something that once felt manageable has turned into something that neither of them can handle without hurting each other because of their inability to meet each other in the middle.

Yuria and Saeko, on the other hand, does not revolve around one central issue like Tamaki and Miwa’s does, and they actually make an effort to communicate. When problems come up, they address them, and they resolve things properly in a timely manner as they come up instead of letting them fester.
Even then, their relationship still doesn’t work out. Although they are able to resolve each issue, the underlying dynamic between them does not change. Yuria tends to be on the avoidant side and withdraws herself from the people around her when she is feeling down, while Saeko wants people to depend on her during difficult times (or just in general) because that's how she gets her reassurance and a sense of stability in a relationship. This dynamic is visible in the way Saeko gradually becomes more cautious around Yuria. At one point, she stops coming over to Yuria's house at her request and begins texting beforehand to ask whether it is okay for her to visit. The fact that she adapts her behaviour shows that she is trying to respect Yuria's boundaries. However, the moment when Saeko appears outside Yuria's house, asks if she can come over over text, and then quietly leaves after being told no is particularly heartbreaking. Even though Saeko is doing exactly what Yuria has asked of her, the interaction still leaves Saeko unsatisfied. Rather than resolving the tension between them, it highlights how their emotional needs continue to pull in opposite directions.
And even if they do try to meet each other halfway, those efforts do not fully satisfy either of them. Each time they resolve something, it still requires adjustment, and that adjustment takes emotional effort. More or less, it becomes an emotional labour rather than bringing relief. So instead of problems building up because they’re ignored, they build up because each resolution still takes something out of them. By the time they break up, it’s not because one single thing went horribly wrong.
That one scene at the beach reinforces this idea further. Both Yuria and Saeko seem aware that their relationship cannot continue in the same way and that a breakup is probably inevitable, yet neither of them is able to bring themselves to end it at that moment. Their hesitation suggests that the problem is not a lack of love or commitment. Instead, it reflects how difficult it is to let go of a relationship that still contains genuine affection, even when both people recognise that it may no longer be maintainable.
It reflects a growing understanding that even though they have been trying, the relationship is not something they can sustain in the long term.

Looking at both relationships together, it becomes clear that Tamifull is not presenting breakups as the result of obvious failure, such as big problems or because people didn’t try hard enough. Tamaki and Miwa show how something that seems small can change in meaning and become harmful through the way it is handled over time. Yuria and Saeko show how even when issues are addressed properly, the relationship can still wear down because the dynamic itself does not change.
In both cases, the relationships end, not because of a lack of care. And that’s what makes it feel so real since it’s not dramatic, and it’s not clean, and there’s no easy takeaway like “this is what they should’ve done differently.” Tamifull’s portrayal suggests that effort and communication cannot overcome every incompatibility.

P.S. I’m not arguing that Miwa and Tamaki’s problems were solvable by any means– In my humble opinion, the traumatic experience that happened between the two could’ve been avoided if both had gone about the problem another way. There’s no definitive answer as to what that other way could’ve been, that’s what's so good about this media; there is no clear solution to these problems. Communication definitely would have helped, but there are many other factors that come into play.

I lwk js realised I didn’t mention the mode of utterance in my Literature exam I took a few days ago. #cooked

Edit: Also, I am no analysist by any means.. I'm actually buttcheek bad at Lit so by analysing more stuff that I'm passionate about (HDWR wink), I hope to get better at it so if I do make any errors or contradicting arguments, please do let me know! I take constructive criticisms anytime of the day :thumbs-up:
