I am getting ready to move into a new rental house that has a pretty decent sized yard for a duplex. However, it has literally no storage for bikes or a push mower and no patio or deck for my flat top grill. The only thing in the backyard are a sidewalk running from the backdoor to the gate in our fence. I have permission and have considered building a patio with pavers or wood but the amount of labor for that and the cost seems like a bad decision for a rental. I also considered building a shed, but it seems I would need to build essentially another patio for that to go on as well, not to mention the cost and labor for the shed itself.

Now the landlord has said that they would reimburse me for the cost, but there's no guarantee that actually happens, and so I am really looking for some other options for what we could do here. We will only be living in this duplex for 1-3 years tops so I want to do something that works well and keeps my equipment safe from the elements. I had an idea for a simple cantilever overhang to put my bikes under mounted on the fence, but I have no idea what to do for the grill and a mower.

Any ideas for a DIY project I could do?
