Blue Lobster by ADK Hemp Co.

Ah yes, the controversial BL from ADK- here is the most recent batch (labs from late May) and, I presume, a product of their new grower.

This is the 4th batch I’ve tried of this strain from ADK and, honestly, it’s my favorite so far. The buds are fresh and sticky (though less sticky than some prior batches) and they have good density. It smokes more smoothly to me and the piney flavor has been tamed a bit in favor of some sweet fruity notes. It’s still piney and earthy/herby but, on the whole, the flavor profile seems more refined to my palate.

The terps tested at 4% with 2% Mercene. It is super-relaxing. I don’t get a significant head high with this- more like a stoney relaxation. I can see why they keep running this, even if it’s not true BL, it’s a terpene producer.

I got this on Friday for $50 out the door (incl a 10% discount) at State of Mind in Latham.

Superboof by Budding Bliss Farm

I have Budding Bliss in my top 5 but I hadn’t had any in a few months so I needed to check in on one of their recent drops and see if they are still hitting home runs…and the answer is yes.

The buds are fresh and sticky with good moisture content. The smell, which translates precisely to the flavor, is fruity and earthy. The high is quite immediate and uplifting. Good potency here. It burns clean and smokes smoothly.

I would like to see them get the terp numbers up but, in terms of the smoking experience, this weed performs very well to my senses. It strikes me as a fine example of the Superboof strain.

They say (real) pictures (not that fake AI sh’t) are worth a 1000 words and I tend to agree. I think these guys are growing some of the prettiest, frostiest buds in the state along w/Alpine Agronomy.

I picked this up at the always excellent State of Mind in Latham for $50 plus tax (with a 10% discount).

Alas, the COA is only a 2-pager

Cornholio by Lit By The Lake

I’ve been hearing good things about LBTL for a while and Cornholio seemed an interesting strain to me. Seedfinder says Cornbread OG x AJ Sour Diesel while info other info on ads for this bud say Unicorn Poop x Bebesita.

The bag is all smalls- a bit of a bummer but no big deal. The buds themselves seem well-cured and quite frosty, with a look that is a little different than the same old same old. I was looking for something different and this is scratching that itch.

This bud has a flavor I’m hard-pressed to describe well except to say that it’s sweet and does give me a corn chip flavor on the exhale- like a taco shell. Very interesting.

It smokes smooth and hits me with a stoney indica effect while still being fairly heady, as well.

The packaging is, perhaps, excessive but I do like the ‘80s video game vibe.

I’ll be looking out for more from these folks.

What are the odds?

I bought 3 1/8s today. 2 were Lit by the Lake Cornholio and Oasis Sour Diesel. By coincidence, the terp profiles are remarkably similar and unusual. 1 is Cornholio 2 is SD

Sour Diesel by Oasis Cannabis

Oasis has definitely moved into my personal top 5 as of late. In the last couple of months I’ve had Blue Dream, Lucid Lemon, and Sour Dlux (I would rank them in that order)- and today I grabbed Sour Diesel. I’ll pretty much always buy SD if I see it on a menu from a trusted grower.

The buds are fresh and sparkle in the sun. The smoke is pretty smooth but there is a very slight harshness- almost not worth mentioning. Perhaps, some add’l curing would help that.

The high is pretty speedy- people prone to panic attacks would do well to avoid this. After a couple bong hits I had an anxious moment- “why does my chest hurt?” If you’re someone who can talk yourself down, it’s kinda fun. When I was in my early 20s I quit smoking for 15 yrs or so because it was inducing panic attacks too frequently. Now, thankfully, it’s no problem for me.

Without going far down the road of “Is it real SD?” I will say that it looks the part. The terps are a bit different though. Phellandrene? The taste is really interesting- sort of woody, herbal, funky, sweet- fairly complex. I enjoy coming across weed with significant amounts of a less common terpene.

At any rate, I’m thoroughly enjoying it.

White Iverson by Mount Vision Pharms

I’ve been sniffing around MVP for a while and finally picked some up.

Most of the nugs are just under 1g, look pretty, and feel fairly fresh to touch. The smoke itself is smooth with a flavor that is predominantly earthy and piney with a bit of pepper.

The effects feel pretty balanced- my mind is stimulated but I can also feel my body unwinding. The reported THC content is a very honest 17%.

The package date is 3/26 but the qr code links to a COA from 9/25- no idea what’s up with that but I don’t care because the weed doesn’t seem old and it’s pretty damn good. I really enjoy quality outdoor/greenhouse bud.

This is possibly the best deal I’ve had on 1/8 from the rec market- almost 5g for $40 out the door at The Bakery.

Strawberry Runtz (kushberries x white runtz) by Tall Trees Farm

My second pickup from Tall Trees- strawberry strains are a favorite mine.

When I opened the bag I was hit with a smell that reminded me of Capt Crunch/Crunchberries cereal. That profile carries over to the very smooth smoke with a hint of gas thrown in. I’ve had 4 bong hits and it’s giving me a jittery and energized buzz.

The terp % is nothing impressive (1.3ish) but it doesn’t disappoint me in either nose or flavor. Regarding the terps, it is not often that you see Humulene leading the pack.

The buds are nice and fresh- a couple being of respectable size accompanied by some smalls.

These first drops from Tall Trees have been impressive. Hopefully, they will only improve from here.

Pure Michigan by Tall Trees Farm

Here’s a new micro out of The Finger Lakes region. I believe this is their first drop and they’ve done well for themselves. I’ve not had the Pure Michigan strain before and was interested to try it.

First off, the buds look great and are very fresh with a couple decent nugs in the mix. It has a nutty coffee nose. The smoke is very smooth and the flavor is nutty, chocolatey, and creamy- outstanding flavor profile. The high is relaxing and light-headed.

I really like this weed. It’s not something I’ll be hitting before 5pm very often but, wow, it’s good.

Lucid Lemon by Oasis Cannabis

This is my second Oasis pickup from their recent drops- the other was Blue Dream, and that was excellent. This Lucid Lemon is also excellent. Upon breaking the seal, it hits you with nice blast of lemon and flowers. To me, the flavor is lemons in cream- really pleasing. The high, as the strain name suggests, is clear, focused, and energetic. The buds are fresh with good density. My only criticism would be the bud size but my criticism is softened by the quality of bud itself. This was $50 out the door at The Bakery in Cohoes.

I also picked up Pure Michigan by Tall Trees, which I will review later.

Orange Paradise by Knack Black

I decided to be a bit of a gambler today and go for a first time buy of Knack. This is their ‘high end’ offering and it’s solid- but not mind-blowing. The nugs are decent looking, though small. The bud structure is a bit loose but not terrible.
It fares better in the smoking. The terps are a respectable 2.57 with a taste that I would describe as skunky orange chem. It smokes very smooth through my glass bong and the effects are very energetic and upbeat- good potency. I tend to favor the upbeat effects because I like to smoke a little bit all day long on the weekends while not turning into a zombie. I paid $45 out the door (had $5 of points) at Madame Jane in d’town Schenectady.

All in all, it’s a pretty good smoke- but have they got the knack? You be the judge.

Northern Lights by Doobie Labs

First time trying Doobie Labs. Northern Lights is a classic. The buds are colorful and seem fresh- perhaps, a bit dry on the outside but sticky when you break it up. This has a lot of purps to it. The high is on point- heavy, relaxing, and sleepy- which is good as I’m coming down from the Knicks game. The smoke is very smooth. The only drawback to this bud is that the terps are disappointingly low (< 1%). It has a really nice sugary taste but it’s not very strong. It’s an enjoyable smoke and has a good stoney kick to it but it could be a little bit better.

XJ-13 (Jack Herer x G13 Haze) by Alien Labs

I am someone who generally only buys flower grown by NY Micros but the other day someone asked where to find AL/Connected around Albany so I looked online and found it in Schenectady, about a mile from me, at a place called Madame Jane. Now, my mom’s name was Jane and she died a little over a year ago so, immediately, I felt a positive connection. I knew I had to pay Madame Jane a visit. The menu has a lot of Al/Connected so I thought “F it, I gotta see what it’s all about.”

Somewhat reluctantly, I must admit that this weed is fire. Certainly, it’s not ‘better’ than what the micros are putting out, but it’s damn good in its own right. The nugs are fresh and dense- but not hard. I like the look of it- very orange. It smokes very smooth, and the buzz rips.

This is a high terpinolene strain (.81%, 2.41% total terps) and it has that terpinolene flavor that you either love or hate. I love it. It’s hard to describe- it’s funky, woody, thick, herbal- i think of it as a landrace flavor. After smoking some of this, I find myself thinking “I gotta do SOMETHING.”

This was $53+tax ($59 and change in total) from Madame Jane. I also picked up Doobie Labs Northern Lights (April 26 date). I haven’t had Doobie Labs before- looking forward to that.

Super Lemon Haze by High Ambitions NYC

I’d been looking for an opportunity to try High Ambitions and Super Lemon Haze is a strain I like very much (lemon skunk x super silver haze) so I went for it. I loved seeing a big nug when I popped the jar. The bud is very fresh and sticky. Terpinolene is the leading terp at .68%. The flavor is not lemony nor is the smell- it has no limonene according to the COA. It sort of clears your sinuses when you sniff it. It has a very zesty , fresh, and earthy quality. The high is energizing and fairly clear-headed. This is an all day smoke.

The labs were done on 5/5 so you know this is about as fresh as you can get from a dispensary.

I was startled by the mold numbers (800,000), which I pay close attention to as I try to avoid weed with high counts- but I can’t say I’m noticing anything in the smoke. I’ve had 4-5 bong hits and I am enjoying it. It burns a little black but I think that is because it’s very sticky. I would not be surpised if it improves a week or so after opening. I’ve noticed that to be the case with my purchases from time to time.

Illemonati (Dosidos x Gelonade) by HG

HG is definitely putting out some fire. They’ve quickly entered my top 5- in large part because their weed seems to get me higher than most others. As best I can tell, it’s well-executed hydro. I actually like the HG more than Roemer, as hydro goes- but that’s just my personal preference not a knock on Roemer. The flavor here is tart lemon with a creamy spice base. The high veers toward a stimulating mental euphoria and deep body relaxation. The nugs are smallish and quite dense without being hard. The smoke is smooth and tangy. $50 out the door at Ripe Cannabis in d’towm Schenectady.

Colorado Chem by Mark Turk Farms

I’m always on the lookout for old school flavors and effects and this really hits the spot.

Mark Turk Farms is a micro coming out of Granville NY- up by the Vermont border. This is my first try with this brand and I’m liking it. An 1/8th that’s 1g overweight? Hell yeah. And it’s basically all 1g buds. From appearance to scent to taste to effects, this is a throwback experience from a time when weed was funk and not candy. It’s all earth and skunky gas. The high is very energizing- even a bit jittery- but without inducing anxiety. The terps tested around a mere 1% but it delivers in the flavor department and it smokes smooth. The bud is dry at the extremities, as evidenced by the shake- although this is also the type of weed and trim that will produce shake. It reminds me of the days of corner bags. And, oh, it was $45 out the door at Ripe Cannabis in Schenectady- a solid deal.

My other Oasis pickup from The Bakery was this Sour Dlux. This stuff is decidedly indica-leaning. The nugs are fresh and quite dense- a point that is driven home by the 2g nug. The flavor is predominantly spicy, herbal, and gassy with some light creamy citrus undertones. The sourness comes in the aftertaste. Terps tested at 1.97%

It doesn’t (for me) have the bag appeal of the Blue Dream I picked up but it’s absolute🔥🔥🔥. It does that thing to me where it’s a bit hard to swallow for a couple of min after I smoke- something I haven’t felt in a long time. $50 out the door from The Bakery (Cohoes)

I saw some new Oasis drops at The Bakery and decided to go in that direction. I picked up Blue Dream and Sour Dlux. If you like Blue Dream, this could be for you. The terps tested at a modest 1.1% but it is very flavorful and complex. I would say it’s sweet berries, herbal/hoppy, piney and creamy. The buzz is euphoric and focused but also relaxing and blurred at the edges. I’m quite pleased with it. $50 out the door.
