Millwall midfielder closing in on Sheffield Wednesday move

BILLY Mitchell is closing in on a move to League One Sheffield Wednesday, NewsAtDen understands.

Millwall were keen to retain the midfielder, whose contract expired at the end of last month, and tabled three contract offers last season, all of which were knocked back by his representatives.

With no breakthrough in negotiations, Millwall moved to reinforce the midfield by signing Jenson Metcalfe and Mathis Servais early in the transfer window.

Alex Neil left the door open to Mitchell’s return last week, but acknowledged the Lions had since moved on to other positions.

That door now appears firmly closed, with Mitchell increasingly likely to join the Yorkshire club.
He would follow another former Millwall midfielder, Barry Bannan, in moving north this summer.

Mitchell came through Millwall’s academy and has made 196 appearances in all competitions for the Lions since his first-team debut in May 2019, scoring once and providing five assists.

When fit, he was often Neil’s preferred midfield partner for Casper De Norre, starting 24 league games last season.

Millwall sign Ipswich centre-back, Elkan Baggott

MILLWALL have signed Elkan Baggott from Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old has penned a long-term deal with the Lions and becomes their fifth signing of the summer, following the additions of Jenson Metcalfe, Tairyk Arconte, Mathis Servais, and Mark Sykes.

The six-foot-five centre-back served as the Tractor Boys’ fourth-choice centre-back last season, making two cup appearances and featuring for their under-21s side.

Baggott came through Ipswich’s academy and made nine appearances across six first-team campaigns. He had loan spells at King’s Lynn Town (National League), Gillingham (League Two), Cheltenham Town (League One), Bristol Rovers (League One) and Blackpool (League One).

He has made 28 appearances for Indonesia, scoring two goals.

“I’m delighted to bring Elkan to the club,” Millwall director of football Steven Gallen said.

“He’s a player we’ve been tracking for some time now, and we’ve followed his development closely – both at Ipswich Town and through his loan spells in the EFL, where he has picked up valuable experience against senior, physical opposition.

“He’s a good age, has a real appetite to improve and fits the profile we look for defensively. Elkan comes in to bolster our defensive options in an area that has been a real strength for us in recent seasons and we’re confident he’ll add real competition and quality to that group.

“We’re pleased he’s chosen to join and we’re looking forward to seeing him progress here.”

Barry Bannan makes Millwall exit

BARRY Bannan has left Millwall and is set to rejoin Sheffield Wednesday.

NewsAtDen understands that the 36-year-old midfielder wanted to return to his former club and has completed a medical.

Bannan joined in January and made fourteen appearances, starting six games.
He came off the bench in both legs of Millwall’s 2-0 play-off semi-final loss to Hull City.

Bannan spent the previous eleven seasons at Hillsborough, making 477 appearances and scoring 37 goals.

His first spell with the Owls came to an end amid off-the-field turmoil. Sheffield Wednesday were placed into administration last October after previous owner Dejphon Chansiri failed to pay players and staff for three consecutive months. The club were deducted eighteen points and finished bottom of the Championship with zero points after winning just two games. They have since been taken over by Arise Capital.

Born in Airdrie, Bannan came through Celtic and then Aston Villa’s academy, before making his first-team debut for the Villans in a UEFA Cup game in December 2008.

After loan stints at Derby County, Blackpool and Leeds United, he joined Crystal Palace permanently in 2013, where he made 22 Premier League appearances across two seasons. He signed for Sheffield Wednesday in 2015 following a loan spell at Bolton Wanderers.

Millwall complete Mathis Servais signing

Millwall Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Mathis Servais.

The 21-year-old midfielder joins from Belgian Pro League side KV Mechelen on a long-term deal for an undisclosed fee, becoming the club's third signing of the summer transfer window.

Servais spent time in the youth systems of Charleroi and Club Brugge before making a move to SK Beveren in 2023, where he scored 10 goals in 62 appearances; statistics that earned him a move to KV Mechelen two years later.

Servais, who has caps for Belgium's youth teams up to Under 21s level, played 34 times in their top division in 2025/26, scoring twice, as Mechelen finished fifth in the League table, qualifying them for the end-of-season Champions' Play-Offs - where they ended in sixth, just missing out on European competition in the forthcoming campaign.

Mathis will now join up with his team-mates at Calmont Road for training this morning [Monday] as he settles into Alex Neil's squad ahead of the Sky Bet Championship season.

"We're absolutely delighted to bring Mathis to the club," said Steve Gallen, Millwall's Director of Football.

"He's young, but plays with real maturity for his age. A Belgian Under 21s international, he can play in a number of positions, but we see him as a central midfielder - athletic, strong and comfortable playing progressively.

"Mathis has been on our radar for a year now, since his move to Mechelen in the Belgian top flight, and we've watched closely as he's progressed there and with the Belgium Under 21s.

"As with any player arriving from abroad, we'll need to be patient as he acclimatises to the team, country and culture, but the potential is exciting and we're really pleased to have him on board.

"Yet again, we have to thank the chairman for his continued support and backing of the team and our club."

Macaulay Langstaff: Salford City sign Millwall striker

Salford City have signed striker Macaulay Langstaff from Millwall for an undisclosed fee.

The 29-year-old scored five goals in two seasons with the Lions in the Championship after joining them from League Two side Notts County in 2024.

Langstaff had a proven goalscoring record in the fourth tier, scoring 29 in 49 games for the Magpies after his haul of 42 in 45 National League appearances the previous season had helped them to promotion.

The Middlesbrough youth product spent six seasons in non-league before his exploits at Meadow Lane.

Bradford City midfielder Jenson Metcalfe set to complete Millwall medical

Bradford City midfielder Jenson Metcalfe is set to complete a medical with Millwall.
The 21-year-old will sign a long-term deal with the club.

The Lions have acted quickly to strengthen their squad, making a move for Metcalfe just a day after the transfer window opened.

Metcalfe impressed for the Bantams in League One last season, making 43 appearances, scoring twice and winning three end-of-season awards: Bingley Bantams player of the year, the Supporters’ Trust young player of the year and Shipley Bantams most consistent away performer of the year.

Metcalfe came through Everton’s academy, and after a successful loan spell at League Two Chesterfield in 2024-25, signed for newly-promoted Bradford last summer.

In his sole season at the club, he helped them to a fourth-place finish. He started both legs of their 2-0 play-off semi-final loss to Bolton Wanderers.

My Millwall Summer Transfer Target’s (Part 2)

To answer the „How did you find these targets?” question:
It is a mixture of reading articles online about young players, using FotMob for advanced statistics, watching YouTube highlights, as well as „{insert player here}’s all touches versus {opponent}” videos; that way I could see some of the bad with the good. I wish I could watch more comprehensive scouting videos of each of these players. As impractical as it is, I like the idea of scouting, so I find this fun.

## 4. Sergi Domínguez (21) – Dinamo Zagreb
- **Position:** CB / RB
- **Height:** 6’2”
- **Foot:** Right
- **Market Value:** €2.5m
- **International:** Spain U19 (5 caps / 0 goals)

### 2025/26 Stats
- HNL (Croatian League): 30 apps / 2 goals / 3 assists
- Europa League: 8 apps / 0 goals / 1 assist
- **Total:** 41 apps / 2 goals / 4 assists

### Briefing
Former La Masia product who made three appearances for Barcelona before heading to Croatia. Named in the HNL Team of the Season. Could be a "Crama-like" player: possesses the height and defensive traits to play CB, but has the aggression and quality to overlap and contribute in attack. Most of his advanced metrics sit comfy in the 90th+ percentile.

### Pros
- Highly intelligent player with excellent reading of the game
- Aggressive defender who loves a tackle
- Loves to get forward, even from CB (100th percentile for touches in the opposition box among HNL CBs)
- Excellent long-range passing range

### Cons
- This was his first season playing more than 20 games in a senior campaign (including his Barca B stint)
- That high aggression can sometimes pull him out of defensive position

---

## 5. Mateusz Żukowski (24) – 1. FC Magdeburg
- **Position:** ST / RB / LW
- **Height:** 6’1”
- **Foot:** Right
- **Market Value:** €3m
- **International:** Poland U21 (4 caps / 0 goals)

### 2025/26 Stats
- 2. Bundesliga: 21 apps / 17 goals / 3 assists
- **Total:** 23 apps / 17 goals / 3 assists

### Briefing
A highly unique profile. Spent the vast majority of his early career playing as a right-back, earning a move to Rangers before returning to Poland on a free. He transition to a winger, then slotting in at right-back, and finally moved to Magdeburg where he was deployed exclusively as a striker. To put up these numbers in his first full year as a ST is incredibly intriguing.

### Pros
- Elite shooting metrics (93rd+ percentile in all shooting categories)
- Extremely clinical finisher this season, massively overperforming his xG (17 goals from 13.27 xG)
- Safe bet from the spot (3/3 penalties converted)

### Cons
- Still very raw and learning the striking position
- Despite his background as a defender, his defensive metrics from the front are surprisingly poor
- Low dribble success rate and poor aerial duel success

---

## 6. Douglas Owusu (20) – Red Star Belgrade
- **Position:** RW
- **Height:** 5’5”
- **Foot:** Left
- **Market Value:** €2.5m
- **International:** Ghana (0 caps / 0 goals)

### 2025/26 Stats
- Super Liga Srbije: 29 apps / 9 goals / 1 assist
- **Total:** 33 apps / 9 goals / 1 assist

### Briefing
Only just transferred to Red Star Belgrade last summer, but is already heavily linked with a €4.3m move to Viktoria Plzeň. High-level underlying attacking numbers across the board.

### Pros
- Explosive pace and highly direct running
- Clever passing ability
- Great off-the-ball intelligence; makes smart runs when play is developing on the opposite flank
- Deceptively strong on the ball for his small stature
- Exceptionally hard worker off the ball (95th+ percentile in defensive stats, higher than Ballo's)

### Cons
- Very short frame
- Proneness to diving and trying to draw soft fouls
- First touch can occasionally get away from him (though he has a great burst of acceleration to recover)

---

## 7. Mohamed Ihattaren (24) – Fortuna Sittard
- **Position:** CAM / RW / LW
- **Height:** 6’0”
- **Foot:** Left
- **Market Value:** €3m
- **International:** Morocco / Netherlands (0 caps)

### 2025/26 Stats
- Eredivisie: 28 apps / 6 goals / 10 assists
- **Total:** 30 apps / 6 goals / 11 assists

### Briefing
One of the most famous wonderkids of his generation who has occupied the books of PSV, Ajax, and Juventus. On the pitch, his style of play is reminiscent of Neghli; he loves to stand up defenders one-on-one before attempting to nutmeg them. Sittard recently triggered a one-year extension on his contract. Massive talent, but comes with heavy off-the-pitch baggage.

### Pros
- Incredible vision; raw stats peg him as one of the best passers in the Eredivisie
- Physically strong on the ball and exceptional in tight spaces
- Lethal threat from dead balls (set-piece and penalty taker)

### Cons
- Tends to slow down counter-attacks to play at his own pace
- Goes down a little too easily looking for whistles
- Severe character concerns: major off-field legal issues from 2022-2023 (including assault allegations and links/association with organized crime)
- Poor aerial combatant and weak in defensive duels

---

## 8. Kevin Pedro (20) – Saint-Étienne
- **Position:** RB / CB / LB
- **Height:** 6’0”
- **Foot:** Right
- **Market Value:** €2.5m
- **International:** France U19 (2 caps / 0 goals)

### 2025/26 Stats
- Ligue 2: 18 apps / 2 goals / 0 assists
- **Total:** 29 apps / 3 goals / 1 assist

### Briefing
A versatile defender who was nominated for Ligue 2 Player of the Season and is currently being monitored by Everton. Started his development as a central-half, but has transitioned into a highly reliable right-back. Very much a traditional "defender-first" fullback.

### Pros
- Excellent distributor (87% passing accuracy)
- Highly physical player who loves to get stuck into challenges
- Reads opposition play beautifully

### Cons
- Offers little in the final third; looks highly uncomfortable when asked to overlap and attack
- Advanced attacking metrics do not stand out

Danny McNamara announces Millwall departure

> DANNY McNamara has announced he will be parting ways with Millwall after his contract expires this summer.
McNamara, 27, posted on Instagram that his twelve-year association with his boyhood club would be coming to an end.

The right-back finishes his Lions career having made 157 first-team appearances since his debut in January 2021.
Born in Sidcup, McNamara joined Millwall’s academy as a fifteen-year-old and, after working his way up through the age groups, signed his first professional deal in 2017.

Loan spells at Welling United, Dover Athletic, Havant & Waterlooville, and Newport County followed, before a successful stint at St Johnstone’s in the first half of the 2020-21 season earned him a recall halfway through the campaign and first-team consideration.
Gary Rowett handed McNamara his first taste of first-team action in the FA Cup against Boreham Wood, before making his league debut against Bournemouth three days later.

McNamara became a regular in the starting eleven across the next three seasons and was ever-present when Millwall narrowly missed the play-offs in 2022-23.
The former Irish under-21 international continued to feature in 2024-25 until his season was brought to an end by a serious knee injury in January, ruling him out until November.
McNamara signed a one-year contract last summer after head coach Alex Neil told NewsAtDen that the club had a “duty of care” and a responsibility not to “leave him in a lurch”.

Summer Transfer Targets no. 1

I’ll probably be posting a few more of these as I have time to analyze players. These are under the assumptions that we’ll lose Femi (and likely Crama). Some may be more expensive than we would normally spend, but I’m including them since James Berylson has been reinvesting most of the incoming transfer fees back into the squad. Most of these guys have YouTube highlights, if you want to look them up.
