PSVR2 makes my flat PS5 games feel like Retrogaming. The one thing I don’t like is…
Couldn’t resist using the meme, but seriously 🙂 I avoided buying PSVR2 for years primarily because of uncertainty around motion sickness, but recently I finally decided to take the risk and buy it, since I noticed the PSVR2 library has expanded by a 10x factor since its launch.
Buying PSVR2 felt like buying a new next-gen Sony console, not an accessory. The combination of full 360 degree audiovisual immersion, together with genuine game control interaction in full 3D space instead of using a joystick, are game changers in the most literal way possible. I never felt this way about early VR a decade ago, but PSVR2 nails it.
Since I bought my PSVR2, when I go back to playing flat PS5 games, it gives me the same “retrogaming” feeling as it felt going back to 2D sprites after the start of the 3D polygon gaming era.
It can be argued that videogaming only has three true “generations”: 1st Gen was flat 2D sprite games (most of the 8/16-bit era), 2nd Gen was flat 3D polygon games, and the latest 3rd Gen of gaming is full featured VR.
That realization actually makes me diminish my interest in a future PS6 console, if PS6 won’t support VR… in which case I may be forced to buy a VR PC for more “3rd gen gaming” once I’ve finished enjoying all the great stuff in the PSVR2 library.
If you’re a PS5 fan reading this who may be on the fence about getting into PSVR2, go for it! Flat screen videos of PSVR2 games never properly convey the next-gen fun of true immersion and interactivity in virtual 3D space 👍
