PSA check your bin size, you might be able to save ~$170–$340 a year
Random thing I found out while looking at council rates, so thought I’d share given how expensive everything is at the moment.
If you’re in Central Coast Council and have one of the larger red bins, you’re actually paying extra for it every year through your rates.
The standard red bin is 140L.
If you currently have:
240L red bin → dropping to 140L could save $170.98/year
360L red bin → dropping to 140L could save $339.84/year
360L red bin → dropping to 240L could save $168.86/year
There’s also a $44.60/year difference if you have the larger 360L yellow recycling bin and go back to the standard 240L one.
Obviously if you fill your bin every week, probably worth keeping it. But I reckon quite a few households have the bigger bin and rarely actually fill it.
$170 a year isn’t going to change your life, but for something you’re paying every single year anyway, I’ll take it.
The Council form also shows that downgrading the bin itself has no additional charge.
Here’s the actual 2026/27 Central Coast Council / 1Coast form with the prices:

Might be worth walking outside and checking what size red bin you actually have 😅
