🚨 ACT NOW: Sign by July 22 to Put 3-to-5 on the Ballot!

🚨 Petition Deadline: Wednesday, July 22

Douglas County is currently governed by three county commissioners, elected at large. Together, they represent nearly 400,000 residents and oversee a $700 million budget.

Signing the petition is not a vote for or against the proposal. If the petition qualifies, the measure will appear on the November ballot.

💡 Key Features of the Proposed 3-to-5 Initiative

🗺️ Localized Representation: Each community would have a dedicated representative focused on its local needs.

🔍 Budget Oversight: The proposal would distribute decision-making among five commissioners responsible for overseeing the county’s budget.

🤝 Accessibility: Commissioners would represent smaller districts, allowing residents to work more directly with their elected representative.

🚨 Douglas Co. Vote Tuesday: Do we really need a $22.8M surveillance expansion?

The County Commissioners vote tomorrow (Tuesday) on a 10-year, $22.8 million contract with Axon to massively expand local surveillance.

What’s in the proposal:
Nearly doubling fixed license plate cameras (from 64 to 113)
Buying 22 advanced drones (including 20 Skydio X10s)
Integrating them with AI-powered software

The Big Question:
According to recent Sheriff’s Office data, our current policing is working incredibly well. Crime is plummeting: Burglaries are down 42% and auto thefts are down 24%.

If local crime is already dropping so sharply, why are we locking taxpayers into a $22.8M contract for aggressive AI tracking? Shouldn't we prioritize data privacy and transparency first?

Let the Commissioners know what you think before the vote:
📞 303-660-7401
📧 bocc@douglasco.gov
(Commissioners: Abe Laydon, George Teal, Kevin Van Winkle)

Easy message to copy/paste:
"Please vote NO on the $22.8M Axon surveillance contract. The Sheriff's data shows crime is already down double digits. We don't need a massive, invasive AI expansion without a lot more public discussion and strict privacy protections."
