Has anyone successfully left ER for Comp? Working as an HRBP, and ER is wearing me out. Would like to stay in the HR field but don't see my long-term future being in investigations. Spent most of my career in project-based corporate generalist roles and definitely feel more comfortable there. Would've happily stayed in those roles if the pay was better.
I received my bachelor's degree in business and HR in 2018 and have been working my way up the HR ladder since, and have been in a manufacturing HR manager role for the last year, however, now that I'm here, I feel like it's weighing on me mentally. Dealing with constant employee complaints, managers fighting me and pressuring me into one decision or another, always operating in subjective gray areas, making decisions that affect people's lives and livelihood, feeling like the enemy to a certain percentage of people. Coming from a corporate background, this has been a lot for me and I am also being pressured to perform by my supervisor as she is quite a nervous person as well and worries about potential lawsuits, EEOC claims, etc. I've gone home pretty stressed most days and it makes me wonder if this is going to work out long term. I often wonder what else I could do but it's hard to see a true pivot without extra school/training. Most high level HRIS roles require CS experience/school, and most Comp roles require Finance experience. And would law school just make my emotions and day to day life even worse?
Feeling quite stuck and unsure of what to do. Am I overreacting? Anyone else have experience in HR manager/HRBP roles or made a career change out of the field?
