Shauna and TaiVan

So I’m on like my 100th rewatch of Yellowjackets (I lost track at this point honestly) but I just got done with season 1 episode 9 immediately after watching season 1 episode 8 and I had a thought. Do you think Shauna knew about Tai and Van before they come out at doomcoming in season 1 episode 9? I say this because after Van gets attacked by the wolves, Tai is in the attack with Shauna kinda explaining what happened, how she fell asleep while on watch and woke up in a tree and all that with no memory of how she got there. Then Tai tells Shauna that she’s the reason Van went and the reason she got hurt, she feels super guilty and is crying obviously because she’s scared and worried about Van. Shauna is trying to comfort her and tell her it’s not her fault and all that. Then in the next episode at doomcoming when Tai and Van come out together Shauna looks happy for them and is smiling but doesn’t look the least bit surprised by this, unlike Mari who was a bit surprised although still supportive like the rest of them. I’ve always kinda wondered if Shauna knew or at least suspected something between them. Sometime I think Tai might have told her that night in the attic but at the same time I’m not sure, because Tai was very adamant in the beginning that nobody know about them, while Van didn’t really care if people knew. But in the circumstances they were currently in I can see it being possible that while in a moment of weakness or whatever Tai let it slip to Shauna that her and Van were something more. Especially since Tai was the first person to know about Shauna’s pregnancy and that Jeff was the father, and Shauna was the first to know about Tai’s sleep walking. I think it’s possible Shauna could’ve been the first person to know about Tai and Van relationship.

Just a thought I had about it. What to you guys think? Did Shauna just suspect or do we think she actually knew because Tai told her?

Saddest Part of YellowJackets

So I’m currently in the middle of my 6th rewatch of Yellowjackets and I was thinking to myself how much trauma and horrible things that those kids went through. I have a few things I find the most sad and heartbreaking for me personally. The first was how Nat felt and handled Jackie’s death. Now obviously they didn’t get along all to well, they were extremely different in a lot of ways, family life, popularity, how they presented themselves, and even how they felt about how others viewed them. Nat honestly could care less how people looked at her and viewed her, as Jackie told her at the party, she was so “ uniquely herself”, something even Jackie admired. While Jackie cared way too much about how people viewed her, especially when it came to Shauna. I think that both Nat and Jackie were jealous of each other, Nat cause of Jackie’s seemingly perfect life and reputation and Jackie because of Nat’s freedoms to be who she is with no shame or care of others opinion. They are very different but mirrored each other in a lot of ways. Nat however felt so much guilt and pain and shame over Jackie dying and of course what they did afterwards. She was the only one who openly acknowledged how messed it was they did what they did even apologized to Jackie’s remains for it. Later in season 3 when Hannah asked Shauna if she was the captain of the team Nat quickly said “she’s not the captain” Shauna said back “neither are you” and Nat replied with “yeah cause she’s fcking dead” but they way she said that I noticed a lot of anger and almost pain her in voice. She felt so much pain over what happened to Jackie, more so than a lot of the other girls, which is really interesting to me being that they really did not get along very well.

And then of course the second thing I find really sad is Tai and Van’s eventually break up. While in the wilderness, they both heavily relied on each other, both admitting that they NEEDED each other, extremely co-dependent. I made a post on Reddit a while back about how although I have no doubt Tai did love Van, I’ve always felt Van loved Tai a lot more than Tai loved her, and I still stand by that opinion. Tai was everything to Van, she loved her so much, nothing and no one ever mattered more to her than Tai did. Still after the crash probably around the time Tai went off to college Tai ended things, out of fear pretty much it seems of how being with Van could hold her back. And while I don’t agree with it I understand from Tai’s perspective why she felt it was necessary to do that, because not only was she gay she was black also and in the 90s. So those 2 factors together could really have held back in her goals. However, as Van said Tai ended up gay anyways and married to a women. I cannot even imagine the pain and heartbreak Van must have felt at their relationship ending only for Tai to end up coming out in the real world anyway and marrying another women. After everything they had gone through together, they hurt and betrayal she must have felt must have been horrible. I’m really glad they ended up getting back together in season 3 despite the fact that Van was understandably hesitant to be with Tai again. I also find it extremely sad that by the time Tai realized how much Van always meant to her and they finally got each other back Van died. Van’s death absolutely broke my heart and I’m still not over it.

Those are just two of the things I find to be most sad for me in the Yellowjackets world. What about you guys? What are some of the saddest things that have happened in the show for you?
