As a man who was sexually assaulted by women, I felt really sad for Travis.

As a man who was sexually assaulted by women, I felt really sad for Travis.

I'm a 22-year-old guy from Argentina, and I got a real chill watching Travis's scene. I was also sexually assaulted as a child by women in my close circles.

That whole sequence with Travis and the delirious euphoria from the mushrooms hit me hard. I feel like that experience seriously damaged Travis’s psyche and completely shifted his place within the group.

Suffering that kind of assault often destroys your self-esteem. You end up feeling dirty, disposable, and unworthy of any kind of social well-being after being dehumanized like that.

In the show, you can clearly see how Travis becomes more closed off and avoidant after the night of the mushrooms, what happened with Javi, and his father.

After that, Travis was terrified of the girls. He knew his word meant nothing anymore. He had been absent or powerless in so many situations that they could easily destroy him if they wanted to, and he was aware of it.

What if "dying" as an adult takes them back to the wilderness?

When Van is in the hospital, teen Van tells her about the plot of The Goonies. When adult Van asks if she's dying, teen Van tells her they're going "to find the treasure," but her mouth doesn't move when that is said.

I'm not a huge beilever in the supernatural theory, BUT if it is supernatural, what if the "treasure" is being indefinitely confined to the spirit of the wilderness. Maybe that's what happened with Cabin Guy and that's why he appeared in the vision. Maybe ll of the other characters who died there are still there "in spirit" and when they all die as adults, their spirits return. This is why "death" is always the plane crashing again, because they are returning.

Perhaps the show will end with all of the teen spirits back in the wilderness, finally all agreeing that the wilderness is the treasure, understanding that they can't escape its influence and therefore embracing it.

Travis and Jackie

>!When Jackie and Travis slept together, would it be considered rape or not, since she didn't really know that he was high? I mean, she did give him the option of saying no, and did turn away before he kissed her, but now I'm thinking, did she coerce him?!<

Shauna and TaiVan

So I’m on like my 100th rewatch of Yellowjackets (I lost track at this point honestly) but I just got done with season 1 episode 9 immediately after watching season 1 episode 8 and I had a thought. Do you think Shauna knew about Tai and Van before they come out at doomcoming in season 1 episode 9? I say this because after Van gets attacked by the wolves, Tai is in the attack with Shauna kinda explaining what happened, how she fell asleep while on watch and woke up in a tree and all that with no memory of how she got there. Then Tai tells Shauna that she’s the reason Van went and the reason she got hurt, she feels super guilty and is crying obviously because she’s scared and worried about Van. Shauna is trying to comfort her and tell her it’s not her fault and all that. Then in the next episode at doomcoming when Tai and Van come out together Shauna looks happy for them and is smiling but doesn’t look the least bit surprised by this, unlike Mari who was a bit surprised although still supportive like the rest of them. I’ve always kinda wondered if Shauna knew or at least suspected something between them. Sometime I think Tai might have told her that night in the attic but at the same time I’m not sure, because Tai was very adamant in the beginning that nobody know about them, while Van didn’t really care if people knew. But in the circumstances they were currently in I can see it being possible that while in a moment of weakness or whatever Tai let it slip to Shauna that her and Van were something more. Especially since Tai was the first person to know about Shauna’s pregnancy and that Jeff was the father, and Shauna was the first to know about Tai’s sleep walking. I think it’s possible Shauna could’ve been the first person to know about Tai and Van relationship.

Just a thought I had about it. What to you guys think? Did Shauna just suspect or do we think she actually knew because Tai told her?

My theory about Callie

Think about the way Shauna treated Jackie. It was this toxic mix of love, jealousy, and eventually, a cold necessity to survive. I think Callie is basically the ghost of Jackie and the ruthlessness of Shauna mashed into one person. By Season 4, Shauna is going to be a total liability. She’s messy, she’s impulsive, and she’s got a trail of bodies (Adam, etc.) that the cops are always five minutes away from finding.

The breaking point? It’s going to be Callie realizing that her mother is the "dead weight."

In the woods, the girls learned that you have to cut off the infected limb to save the body. Callie has grown up watching Shauna lie, manipulate, and butcher things in their kitchen. She’s been "trained" without even knowing it. I could see a scenario where Shauna tries to take the fall for Callie for something, but Callie realizes that as long as Shauna is alive, the "Wilderness" (the trauma, the secrets, the chaos) will never leave them alone.

It won’t be a big, emotional accident. It’ll be Callie making a choice. She’ll use the same knife Shauna uses for their human meat. Shauna spent her life haunted by what she did to her best friend in the woods, only to be taken out by the person she brought into the world to replace her.

I want to see Callie become the wilderness Queen, with other theories mixed into it, or she may help/kill everyone else to protect her mother, then kill her mother... I'm not sure, I just want to see Callie become what they have been pointing out over and over. She already believes she's worse than her mom Shauna

The state of yellowjackets team now

I'm curious if a yellowjackets team will still be active when they return home and also if there is still a yellowjackets team during Callie's time at WHS. Surely there has to be some girl soccer team and I don't see a reason for the school to disband the team completely. Also I don't think every member of the yellowjackets team was on that plane but I'm not sure.

Travis Martinez headcanons

I have thoughts. Here are some of them, both pre-crash, during, and after.

  • Not popular before the crash. Had about three months in 6th grade where he was "cool", but it was only because he helped people in Spanish class cheat. "Coolness" went away after fumbling a card trick in the mandatory school talent show, and he cried on stage.
  • Has one vague friendship in high school with this kid who was socially ostracized after throwing a chair at their 8th grade teacher. Unfortunately for Travis, he got a lot less weird (or just more confident in his weirdness) and is now pretty well known and liked for selling weed. Travis gets into skating through this friend, but he is not very good at it.
  • Only speaks Spanish with his mom, and not that often, either. His dad is very much pro-assimilation, very much pro-America. Travis and him never speak Spanish together. Travis used to go to Catholic church with his mom and Javi and really enjoyed it. He loved the routine/familiarity of each service, and had church friends (even if they called him pocho). He doesn't really believe in God, but he does pray a lot.
  • Tried soccer, but was really bad at it. Needing back surgery for scoliosis and therefore quitting the team kind of ruined his relationship with his dad because the only thing they had in common was soccer. Travis resents the Yellowjackets for getting all of his dad's attention-- not only is Travis not athletic, but he's also been lectured about being more "manly" for years by his dad, and seeing him invest all of this time and effort into the girls soccer team makes him feel even worse. His relationship with masculinity is very tied up in athletic performance.
  • Sometimes resents Javi for being allowed to be sensitive and have "feminine" hobbies like art because he is the youngest. Also is jealous of how many friends Javi has.
  • Was very into magic tricks as a kid. Loved to read and would write stories. Is very into Vonnegut and loves the whole Beat poet thing.
  • Nat was his first kiss. He does not understand why she likes him so much, feels inexperienced, ugly, and uninteresting next to her. He feels hyper aware that, without being stranded out here, she probably wouldn't look twice at him. It feels awesome to be "picked" by her. Survival and continually saving each other evens the playing field. In winter, Travis walks in front of her through the snow so she doesn't have to exert as much energy (she's the better shot, and he knows it).
  • Studied the cabin guy's book on knots obsessively once stranded after the crash. Set a lot of traps while Nat went off with the gun. It was his idea to use the practice soccer goal's net for fishing in the lake.
  • Post-rescue, he will basically sleep with anyone who gives him attention. As an insecurity thing, as a fuck you thing to Nat, as a desperate attempt to reclaim sexual autonomy when it was broken out there. Him and Nat are on and off because of a) guilt about Javi, b) resentment about Javi, c) addiction, and d) mutual idea that the other is a "better person" than they are, and deserves better, so they both self-sabotage.
  • Spends a long time post rescue getting manual labor jobs and quitting them, moving cross country. He drives a truck. He sends Lottie letters while she is in Switzerland. Him and Shauna are pen pals for a 9 month period in 2000.

My Symbol Theories‼️

Let me know if you agree on these theories!:)

  1. The dead cabin guy was practicing some sort of Witchcraft or Santeria cult stuff and used this symbol as a pentagram of sorts, which would make sense as to why it was next to his body with him holding a gun, like maybe he was trying to summon "IT" like Lottie!!

Okay, 2nd theory, Taissa or whatever is possessing her is wayy more
connected to this place than we think. I mean he's eyeless, so obviously he would need markers on the trees to get around and know where he is!! This could also tie into my first theory and The man with no eyes ALSO possessed cabin guy AND MADE HIM CARVE THE SYMBOLS FOR HIM!!! I really think this might really think this might be what they are for/how they got there. And I know Taissa’s grandmother saw him too so it seems more hereditary but we should be more open minded to his entity being larger scaled than we think perhaps.

3rd bonus theory from my boyfriend, he thinks the Cabin guy IS the paranormal entity, and i can definitely get behind this because post-crash they didn’t encounter anything paranormal until the cabin.

4th but not likely theory, at the beginning of the show a teacher said none of the girls cared about trigonometry so it could be related to that but i don't see how that would play into the paranormal/unreliable narrator plot much..

5th ehh theory, it has something to do with soccer but just like the trigonometry theory it has little relevance to the wilderness..

First episode, leg incident

Does anyone else wonder how Taissa managed to butcher that girl's leg so badly just from sliding into her? Like so much of the flesh came off? I fail to see how that could actually happen irl

Shauna's missed experience

Season 1 Shauna's main draw to Adam is that he makes her feel young again and they make a point how she missed quintessential high school experiences like skinny dipping. But my question is how because she crashed at 18 she still had a few good years to do all that. Unless I'm reading it wrong and the implication is that Jackie prevented her from that?

My Yellowjackets tamodashi world!

Melissa and Jackie both ended up with crushes on shauna which was really funny to me (Melissa is in the pink hat!).

Also, the plane picture was pure coincidence and i was cackling at them looking at the plane.

Also, some shirts i custom made for Shauna because im pretty proud of how they turned out

why did laura lee have little to no injuries after the crash

im lowkey confused ive watched the show before but i didnt really notice laura lee until my second watch through but from what i saw all the other girls and the 3 guys had injuries blood, cuts, scrapes, wtv but laura lee barely had any and she was in the aisle so i would think she would have some sort of facial injury not just a bruise or a few minor cuts. she should atleast have a cut on her arm or her leg, something ykwim

Top 5 faves

Comment ur top 5 fave characters and why!!

1)Nat. Sarcastic rockstar gf. I loooove her. Easily one of the most principled women in the show. Amazing huntress and really has her head screwed on. Saved the rest of them. Honestly was so forgiving to misty. It was more chivalrous than misty deserved that Nat kept the secret of it being Mistys fault they were never rescued. I related to her daddy issues and loved her dedication of trying to solve Travis' death. The addiction storyline is the most normal reaction to what went on imo.

  1. Laura Lee. Ahh she's such a lovable cutie.. Made a huge sacrifice for the team flying that plane. She just deserved endless teddy bears. Held steadfast to hope always and that's inspiring as hell. I liked how she tried to introduce Lottie to spirituality in a benign way. The baptism scene was beautiful.

  2. Travis. Honestly one of the least problematic characters. Principled and very loyal to his little brother. Doesn't get angry much. Yeah there was that very brief hangup he had over body counts but he's sposed to be like 16 right? And he got over that. He was also really caring towards akilah and supported her which I liked. Honestly just kept himself to himself alot of the time and didn't engage in the hunts which implies a lack of corruptability.

  3. coach Scott... So resourceful despite being an amputee. I can't even imagine how painful it was for him to have his leg chopped off and tbh he barely went on about it. He was kind to misty depsite her being... Misty. He looked after Mari and let her go depsite knowing the consequences for him. He is one of the few characters who is actually accountable for his mistakes too eg not being helpful to shauna in labour etc etc. I hated his ending. Very realistic portrayal of intense depression.

  4. akilah / Jeff

Jeff is such a himbo I grew to rly love him. Had some of the best lines in the show. Eg there isn't a book club and talking about his love for unhinged women. He was so loyal to shauna depsite her faults he was willing to go to jail for her.. Alos such a sweet dad, I loved his relationship with callie and them smoking a j together

Akilah is such a sweet animal lover!! She's like bambi personified. I love how she's often holding a bunny or tripping on poisonous cave fumes, she's such a vibe. I liked her soft dynamic with Travis although I mainly just ship them as friends. I think she was looking for some kind of meaning to it all by wanting to believe in the wilderness but she was also so bewildered by it all which I felt relatable. I'm glad I've heard she's getting more screen time next season. The scene when she befriended the little mouse was so sad. It's clear that animals are her comfort. I feel she'd be vegan irl.

Why didn't Van become a conduit?

Van seemed to be one of the more devout believers as a teen. She was desperately seeking meaning to explain why she survived the fire on the plane, and the wolf attack. Plus she advocated for Tai, seeking recognition from the group because Tai was deeply connected to It (after finding the trees and Javi).

Van had a near death vision after the wolf, and also had a cave dream along with Akilah and Shauna. It's sort of suggested that the three might have seen the same thing, or at least they each saw something profound. It's clear to me why Shauna kept silent about her dream, but why wouldn't Van have sought Lottie out and explored the message of her dream? Akilah did, and became an esteemed conduit.

So why didn't Van want to be a seer, or have her experiences validated by Lottie and the group, in the same way as Akilah's were honored? Why didn't she tell Lottie about her vision from the cave?

Or why didn't she tell Lottie that she saw something after the wolf, when she wasn't really dead but not really alive either...And if she did tell Lottie about her near death experience, then why didn't Lottie try to make her a special conduit?

I realize Akilah got special attention because Travis claimed "It" told him she was more connected, and that's why Lottie saw Akilah as the next big deal... But I think if Van had explained her experiences, especially if she saw something on par with what Akilah first envisioned, then Van would have been pumped for "messages" and honored too?

And like I said, Van sought meaning for her own suffering and survival, so why not attempt to receive more messages from the wilderness? Why did she try to get the group to recognize Taissa as connected to It, but didn't advocate for herself?

Did she simply not want that kind of attention? And if Lottie knew, then why didn't she ever ask Van to drink the tea, or to huff the gas?

Impressions from someone who just finished binge-watching all three seasons in less than two weeks

From the span it took me to finish all 29 episodes, you may guess I'm somewhat obsessed with this show (and I just got in the bandwagon in time for season 4, yay!). I also have a bunch of stuff I'd like to talk about, but since I haven't yet convinced my friends to join the Church of Lottie-Day Saints watch it, I figured this was the right place ^^

- For starters, Misty. I like how the show kinda turned my opinion on her almost upside down, from thinking her the freakiest of the girls back in S1 to a rather complex and almost normal by Yellowjackets standards in S3. She's flawed, but outside of undermining their rescue chances, most of her questionable actions seem motivated by a genuine desire to protect her friends. Also, I hadn't watched Christina Ricci since her 90s works, and she's awesome ❤️

- Then, Shauna. Throughout the first 2 seasons, I mostly sympathised with her... but then, as S3 revealed just how far she spiralled, I was reminded that she had a dark side from the very start; the wilderness simply allowed her to thrive on it. Now I utterly despise her - and I say that as a compliment. The writers, Melanie Lynskey and especially Sophie Nelisse are doing an amazing job at making her a character I love to hate. Last such character, for me, was Cersei effin' Lannister.

- Jeff has been a very positive surprise, and so has Callie. At first, I thought Jeff would be the stereotypical useless, selfish husband; how refreshing it was, then, to watch him actually own up to his mess and even take the fall for Shauna. That alone (as well as his defence of Shauna against Jackie's parents) made him one of my most liked characters in the show; but his increasing exasperation at the Yellowjackets' antics brings a nice hilarity to the story.

And on that vein, Callie started out seemingly as the stereotypical uncontrollable teen who's always on the rebel path and clashing with her parents for no reason. It was pretty surprising, then, and interesting, to watch her become almost a voice of sanity as she watched her parents reveal themselves increasingly problematic. Then her proximity with her dad made them both extra endearing to me.

- Speaking of relatively "normal" characters, poor Coach Scott T.T Being a teacher myself, that scene where he opens up to the Yellowjackets was so sweet (and it mostly made up for him being such a nothing-burger character for so long). Students can be such little pests sometimes, but we still do what we can for them. And on the subject of Coach Scott, f*ck Shauna (and Mel).

- And poor Travis too, though it's a shame his character has become increasingly uninteresting to me. He could've been the source of some pretty cool plots and discussions, being the sole guy among this all-girls group, and S1 did seem to be going that way with his "Sokka at the Kyoshi Warriors village" arc.

- Oh and poor Mari. She could be insufferable, but usually in a funny way. Her rendition of I'm Too Sexy, followed by the worst-ever attempt at seduction, legit made me cackle. And deep inside, she still had a moral core - unlike many of the Yellowjackets by S3, might I add.

- Not much to say about TaiVan other than I loved them, and was broken-hearted at what happened. Seriously, f*ck Mel (and Shauna).

- Speaking of, it's kinda scary how good Tawny Cypress (adult Taissa) is at alternating between TaiJekyll and TaiHyde. I'm a bit proud of myself for realising TaiHyde had taken over a lot earlier than revealed, simply by paying attention to her expressions.

- On the narrative overall, I really liked how S1 takes its time to build the Yellowjackets as this group of friends who, despite being stranded in the middle of nowhere, still were pretty normal teens, who liked normal teenager stuff and mostly cared for each other. It makes their descent into cannibalism and darkness that much more of a gut punch. I also appreciate that, even as they go full cannibalistic Bacchantes, they don't entirely change their personality (most of them, I suppose); watching them still indulge in fun and games at the start of S3 was a pleasant surprise. Throughout S1, I expected the show to become much more grimdark by S3; I'm glad it didn't (even if S3 felt a bit too light-hearted at times).

Like I said earlier, I'm glad I got into this series at this point in time, so I won't have to wait a whole year for the final season. Really curious about how they'll conclude this story ❤️
