[1585] The Price of Betrayal

[1585] The Price of Betrayal

Hi

So I am currently planning a series and worldbuilding for it and wanted to write some short stories. But I realized I have never had my work critiqued before. So before I actually start writing the novel I wanted to see what people think, what I need work on ect.

I know my spelling, grammar and formatting need work. I mainly want to know:

  • Is there enough information about the world?
  • Is the character voice constant?
  • Do you get a sense of who the character is, desires and fear ect.

Edit/add on:

Warning - there is a character death at the end

How do I have a people pleaser character not as to timid?

Hi everyone!

So I am currently developing characters for my first ever story, and I have this character that is a self sacrificing people pleaser, how do I have so they do not come off as timid or as a push over?

I am particular struggling with the first half of the story, because at the midpoint he does start to be more active, but I still want tension being built before that point and I feel like if he is too timid before the midpoint it will feel to much of an abrupt change.

Here is some story context:

  • He is a member of the lower class in the fantasy world, where he has never encounter a member of the upper class before.
  • He is now in a situation where he is surrounded by the upper class.
  • It was against the law for the two classes to even interact but because of the inciting incident he has now been raised up to the same lever.

So any advice would be wounderful!

A question about character internal conflict

Hi

So I am currently working on a project and was looking at my character conflicts, and I am not actually sure if the conflict I cam up with is actually a conflict.

A bit of context:

  • The theme of my novel is identity
  • I am writing a series, six books in total, so the conflict has to at least be seen in a few of them
  • Before the start of the series this character (Altair) has spent ten years in a place where he has lost his motivation and purpose (he is working as a spy for a rebellion)

His internal conflict:

Altair's purpose and motivations become dictated by others.

For examples he starts to fight in the rebellion to protect the people he loves rather then frightening because it is the right thing to do.

So is it an internal conflict? If not how can I make it an internal conflict?

Any feedback/answers would be amazing!

Thanks
