I claim DSP and worked the financial year 25/26. Doing Tax Return and Tax free/gov pensions and benefits section is showing $0. This has never happened before. Do i need to calculate and add this? or can i submit without and amend later? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone.

I am working through my tax return for financial year 2025-2026. I worked part time for the financial year. I made sure to always report my income correctly and claimed my DSP as normal with regular work payments with no issues. My tax return does seem to show correct Tax witheld from working etc.

However now when I am doing my Tax Return, in the Gov Pensions/Beneift section, there is no pre-filled auto data or amount (just displays $0.00). I went back and check previous returns and this was automatically done in the past, however I admittedly cannot remember if they ay have also displayed $0.00 while lodging and updated retroactively.

I was just wanting to ask, would I get in to trouble if i lodged my current return with the benefits section having a $0.00 balance? Or should i go and calculate how much DSP i received and then add it manually to the return myself?

I have heard that you can submit it with a $0 balance and then it can apparently be amended at a later date. I have also heard that calculating and adding approximations of your payment can also confuse the ATO and Centrelink as they should already know what balance should be displayed there for the return.

Any guidance on what I should do would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to make any mistakes or get in to trouble for not doing this correctly. I just haven't ran into this issue before as even past Tax returns when i was on Jobseeker many years ago seem to auto calculate and show this.

Apologies for the long post, just want to make sure I don't make mistakes doing this. if anyone has been in a similar situation and could provide any guidance that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you everyone in advance!
