Is Hormiga González Ready For Europe?

As Hormiga González has recently been linked to Greek Club, Olympiacos F.C., many are questioning whether or not he is ready for the jump towards European football? Though many are divided on the topic, I will say “yes”.

Here’s why:

Hormiga González finished the 2026 Clausura with 12 Goals in 17 games. One of his best attributes is being able to roam around the box looking to attack the ball towards goal from distribution of players such as Richard Ledezma and Piojo Alvarado. He has an innate ability to do so. Moreover, he was named amongst the 26 best players to represent Mexico in the 2026 World Cup. Though his time was limited at the World Cup, he’s club season is what most stood out. Yet, even so, Hormiga is still raw. At times, he still has difficulty finishing chances. Moreover, link-up play needs much work. At times, he misplaces passes, mess up control, etc. But with a prospect as La Hormiga González, he is definitely one to keep tabs on for the coming years, where he could play an important role for the 2030 World Cup cycle.

In the end, is anyone ever prepared for everything? We come into things thinking we are prepared, but if we never experienced such things, how could we be so sure? For Hormiga, he either makes the move to Europe and makes a name for himself and stays or not. Yet, to me, he seems humble, disciplined, and hardworking. At times though, he does looks as if he does lack the confidence to just forget past mistakes and try again. If he could just let past form go and focus solely on playing his game with confidence and self-belief, he will be a force to be wrecking with for many years to come, both in the national team and with club.

Chivas vs Seattle Sounders

Personal Takeaways From Chivas’ Victory Against The Seattle Sounders

As the whistle blew, one thing that has stayed in my mind throughout the match was how much of a difference the likes of Hugo Camberos and Santiago Sandoval have on this Chivas team. Unfortunately, Cotorro González had gotten injured early into the match, making way for CONCACAF U20 Championship MVP and Golden Boot Winner, Hugo Camberos, to make his way onto the pitch. And wow… Camberos, the player you are. He brought a new danger that this Chivas frontline lacked during this Leagues Cup campaign. Running at defenders, taking shots, what an amazing talent Chivas and Milito have in their hands. Moreover, my credit also goes to Santiago Sandoval, like Camberos, he can go at defenders, but also has the IQ to play as a 10 and penetrate through opposing defenses. The header? The cherry on top to the performances these two exciting young men had tonight. Lastly, Luis Rey, a Liga MX All-Star, who has rarely gotten minutes this season, can play an important role for this season. Whether as a Pivot or Centreback, I believe he has the quality to start on this Chivas team, replacing the likes of underwhelming starters (Oso Gonzalez and Luis Romo specifically). Unfortunately, Milito needs to realize the talent on his hands, himself. Overall, the match was won and at least, this Chivas team can end of their campaign with a win.

Who Had A Greater Impact? Santiago Sandoval Or Hugo Camberos?

Personally, after watching this past Concacaf Championship, it is undoubtedly true that Hugo Camberos had an amazing campaign. Five goals, including one which sealed Mexico’s path to the final against Canada. However, Santiago Sandoval, to me, had a greater impact on this Mexico team than Camberos. To me, this was most exemplified in the Canada game. Yes, it obviously takes skill and confidence to convert such an important penalty as Camberos did; But, with an injured hand, Sandoval was tearing up that Canadian defense. First, as the 10, he was consistently found in-between lines looking to penetrate the defense. Then, out wide, he would consistently take on his man, making him a constant threat throughout. Hugo, to me, seemed less involved and dangerous in the game. Yes, he would get the ball, but wasn’t always looking to attack like Santi. Instead, he’d cut in looking to recycle the ball. I found that Sandoval was a more exciting and impactful player for the team, which unfortunately, stats did not represent unless one were watching the game. And in the end, I believe that Santi had a greater impact on the game than Camberos.

Richard Ledezma Would Have Sent Mexico To The Quarterfinals Of WC 2026

Richard Ledezma came from PSV Eindhoven in 2025. It has been over a year since his arrival and to say the least, he was dominating both Aperatura and Clasura of the 2025-26 season. As a result, he got called up to the national team in January and March. With his profile, he possesses exceptional technical ability, able to run up-and-down the right flank. With Piojo as his Right Winger. He would have been able to roam around the middle more, which is what we see with Chivas (present day). Now, what if Richard Ledezma played that game against England. Do not get me wrong, Sanchez had an above average display, but again, he lacks the directness of someone like Ledezma. From the past season, he was (statistically) the best crosser in the league. With Gallardo again unable to cross the ball on the Left flank; I have no doubt in my mind, one of Richard’s crosses, could have found the back of the net.Undoubtedly sending Mexico to the Quarterfinals of the World Cup 2026
