This is the dc I kept waiting for, HBO made dc feel heavy again

This is the dc I kept waiting for, HBO made dc feel heavy again

i don’t mean the version where every other scene is setting up a team or a sequel. i mean the one that just sits with you after the episode ends and you don’t immediately want to check what else is coming out.

lanterns never really throws a party. it’s two tired men, a ring, and a job that has already taken something from both of them. penguin doesn’t stop the scene so a logo can wink at you. it’s a man getting worse in a city that lets him, and the show is fine with that. the episode scores stay up because nothing has to pause and sell the next movie. the dips are small. the endings don’t apologize.

that’s the dc i meant when i said i missed it.

A round of applause for the Casting director

John already looks like he’d take the ring seriously. Hal looks like the legend after the years caught up. Guy looks like he’d start a fight in the briefing. Sinestro looks like order with a knife in it. #Lanterns

Which Villain was the most evil 😈

I believe it's Joker who has the highest bdy count in DC comics. Hundreds of millions. And he never even looked at a single one of them. The Joker doesn’t have a motive. He doesn’t have a plan.

Wife and Dog has joined the rosamund pike in a sharp bob cinematic universe

Rosamund Pike’s haircut can be a franchise as she keeps showing up as the polished blonde who is smarter and colder than the men around her. It's all nearly the same.

Directed by casper kelly

This guy takes the most innocent TV formats and turns them into nightmares.

Many reviewers say Casper Kelly is great because he “mixes comedy and horror.” That is too simple imo. What he really does is attack the shape of TV itself.

He does not start with a scary idea and then dress it up as a sitcom or a kids’ show. He first copies the real rules of that format almost perfectly, the smile, theme song, that fireplace shot, the way credits keep adding names.

You relax because your brain already knows this language. Then he refuses to stop. He holds the same pattern too long. That extra time is the scare. The monster is not only a killer on screen. The monster is the show that cannot end, the host who must stay happy, the camera that will not look away.

Many miss this: he is not parodying old TV for a cheap laugh. He is using your memory of how TV is supposed to work, and then he breaks the contract. That is why Too Many Cooks still works after one viewing, and why a yule log or a unicorn kids’ show can feel more wrong than a normal slasher.

Movies where villians actually won

In Seven the villain was killed, shot in the head - but his project, that's where he won.

Closed books aren’t finished

Some people aren’t mysterious but just unread. And the only way through is page one, not the last chapter we invented in our head #Obsession

What are some of the coolest parents in Film? My pick is JK Simmons and Allison Janney in Juno

This scene is probably where Juno really shows what kind of movie it wants to be.

She tells her parents she is pregnant, and instead of giving us that cliched teen movie parents who scream, panic and turn the whole thing into drama, Bren and Mac are actually... normal human beings.

They are obviously shocked, but they are older, smarter and somehow still funny in the middle of it. When Juno says Paulie is the father, Mac has this little reaction with Bren that says more than some big angry speech ever could. And later Bren basically reminds him, 'you know it probably wasnt his idea.'

That is what I liked about the scene. It could have gone for the easy joke... angry parents, stupid boyfriend, everyone shouting. Instead their reaction feels warm and human.

They dont stop being parents just because they are disappointed or surprised. And that makes the whole thing much more believable.
