I really like this theory but I might be overthinking it [Questions Arc]
I've been reading and rereading the Questions Arc, both VN and Manga.
I started working on writing down my full answers.
My central theory when it comes to the murder mystery part is: >!Sayo, main culprit, is Shannon, Kanon, and Beatrice.!<So, even though I'm fairly confident in this, I'm not looking for explicit confirmation or denial.
The Headcount
How many humans exist on the island? well, 16, counting Kanon/Shannon as 1 human named Sayo. Easy...
Ok, how many "people"? Because now, you can NOT count Kanon/Shannon as 1 because of:
"Kanon is dead. Among the five people in Kyrie's group, he was the first to die. In short, he was the 9th victim."
This confirms that Kanon counts as a person, and not only that, but Shannon counts as ANOTHER simultaneous person.
Sayo, of course, is a person too... so now we count Sayo/Kanon/Shannon as 3 "people"... oh wait:
No more than 17 humans exist on this island!! That excludes any 18th person. In short, this 18th person X does not exist!! This applies to all games!!!
Sayo is EXACTLY this 18th person. Now you might think "This red truth is talking about no more than 17 HUMANS", but no, it clearly says "excludes any 18th person". Meaning, there are no more than 17 "persons/people". But Kanon/Shannon personhood is confirmed in red with "five people in Kyrie's group"...
Then there is a red truth that confirms that Sayo and Shannon can exist simultaneously:
"When the five other than Kinzo were killed, the killer was definitely in the same room as them! I already proclaimed in red at the time that there were no suicides!!" -Game 3, First twilight.
So the killer(Sayo), was in the same room as the victim(Shannon) when Shannon was killed, and it was NOT suicide. Meaning, Shannon is not Sayo, and Sayo is not Shannon, otherwise, Shannon would've killed herself, qualifying it as a suicide. Once more, confirming 2 separate persons existing simultaneously which ruins the headcount.
But also, sometimes, the red outright forgets about Sayo, it's almost like the trick is so good it fools the narrative itself.
"Natsuhi's death was a homicide! There are no unidentified corpses, and all of the survivors have alibis" - Game 1
Sayo is the culprit, and she survived thus far, so by all means, she is one of the survivors, who was no alibi...
Sometimes, 'Shannon' is used as a nickname, rather than a full on persona/alter ego:
"When Jessica's corpse was discovered, only Battler, George, Maria, Rosa, Genji, Gohda, Shannon, Kumasawa, and Nanjo were in Jessica's room.. Whoops, the corpse of Jessica is also included. Therefore, both in the case involving Jessica's room and the one involving this servant room, no humans exist that you were not aware of. No one is hiding." -Game 2
Where is Sayo? "well, right there, she just goes by 'Shannon' on duty." in this case, 'Shannon' is simply a different name that points to the same human, which makes "Shannon is dead" = "Sayo is dead". But of course, "Shannon" is treated as a persona that can be "killed off" while Sayo survives.
I don't think there is a consistent framework that explains this issue without resorting to obscene re-interpretations that would undermine the reliability of ALL red truths, and here's the best example:
"All of them had what appeared to be gunshot wounds that were fatal!" -Game 3, First Twilight
"fatal" is attributed to what "All of them HAD". So, everyone else had genuine gunshot wounds that were fatal... But Shannon had "what appeared to be gunshot wound(s)", HOWEVER, that (cosmetic) thing, WAS FATAL!
The necessary reinterpretation here would be: The cosmetic blood that Sayo applied was fatal to the persona 'Shannon'... and at that point, what do words even mean?
Now please, if I'm flat out wrong about something that gets revealed in the Answers Arc, PLEASE do not cite it as a rebuttal, just point and laugh, let me bark up the wrong tree.
