I have no idea what's wrong with me

First off, I am not musically gifted, quite the opposite, so this could be all there is to it.

Anyways, I've genuinely been stuck on the ACT2 boss.. unironically 30+ attempts, recalibrated my stuff, made sure it feels good on earlier levels, all is good. Yet, I can't keep the basic tempo for the first 2 phases.

I close my eyes, I become slightly better, but not enough... I TURN OFF THE MUSIC.. Now all I hear is the "ready set go" and the claps when I should be clicking.. and I clear it FIRST TRY???

I get that it's a one button game and a big part of difficulty comes from the music and visuals throwing you off. But at this point... am I even playing the game?

I've never been so confused... do people manage to get "in the zone/flow state" while actively listening to the music and seeing the visuals? it feels like the entire challenge is zoning them out instead of leaning into them which might be why muting + closing my eyes made it trivially easy.
