Fishing off a pier in NJ question.

My kids have been begging to go fishing so I figure I'll bring some rods with us while we go crabbing this week. We typically go off a pier in Ocean county NJ, I'm a complete amateur and I'm curious what type of bait, lure, hook size or line setup I should be using?

What bait/lure should I be using? Barnegat bay.

I'm a huge amateur with fishing but my 2 kids have been begging to go. I have a couple fishing rods and want to take them this week while we go crabbing. We'll either be fishing off Berkeley island/ocean gate or barnegat pier. I'm just curious of the type of bait, lure, hook size or line setup I should be using.

Moved my chicken coop and looks what's growing!

We used to feed our chickens pumpkins in the fall after Halloween so the pumpkins wouldn't go to waste. After moving our coop to a different part of the property I now have random pumpkins growing where the coop once stood. And there growing at a crazy rate. I'm wondering if I can use this soil that was under the coop and move it into my garden.

Do peat planters just suck?

Bought some of these peat planters to up pot my melons and tomatoes, they seem to just absorb every bit of water I add, and suck all the water from the soil. Should I just re pot these again in plastic containers or let it ride and water every other day? I'd hate to disturb the roots again.

Edit: Seems as tho the general consensus says these suck. I guess tomorrow I'll re pot again in the plastic containers. The unfortunate cold weather new jersey has been having is really putting a damper on getting these outside.and I feel as tho these planters are hindering the plants progress.

We have 3 Barred rock chickens about 3 years old, we're trying to slowly introduce 6 more chicks to the flock that are about 6 weeks old. The one chicken is quite mean and pecks at the chicks. I have been introducing them by letting the chicks roam in their rather large enclosed area where the coop is and trying to separate the one mean chicken when it approaches the chicks to peck them.

What strategies have y'all used that worked?

How long do peppers typically take to germinate? I planted a bunch of tomatoes and watermelon, along side some bell peppers and jalapenos on 4/22 and everything seems to of germinated except my peppers...what gives.
