Where can I buy nightcawlers in northern NJ?

I like to fish the ramapo up in the mahwah area for trout. Where can I grab some nightcrawlers around there? I stopped by the riverdale Walmart but they were all out.

What bait/lure should I be using? Barnegat bay.

I'm a huge amateur with fishing but my 2 kids have been begging to go. I have a couple fishing rods and want to take them this week while we go crabbing. We'll either be fishing off Berkeley island/ocean gate or barnegat pier. I'm just curious of the type of bait, lure, hook size or line setup I should be using.

Need Help Finding Laws on Fish.

I’m going on a trip this week to LBI. I want to try to catch and cook dog fish. It’s not a normal fish to cook, but they use it in England for fish and chips. Anyway, I read that the season for them is always open with no catch or size limit. Is this accurate? If not, where can I go to get this info. The website for NJ Fish and Wildlife isn’t the best

3 Year Stream of Getting Skunked

Been coming to LBI every July 4th weekend for years. More often than not I’m getting skunked in the surf. Sitting here this morning throwing bucktails with a gulp on it, fluke rigs, and a few other things.

Hoping this is the year my luck changes, I’d take anything. Wish me luck!

100F Saltwater Fishing

Its going to be 100+ degrees fahrenheit this july 4th weekend and I have an itch to do some fishing around the Old Bridge area. Am I wasting my time if i actually want to catch something in this weather or does the temperature not really affect fishing?

New to fishing. Any tips on good spot in or near Begen County?

Looking for spots to start freshwater fishing in or near Bergen County. Probably going to try Oradell reservoir this weekend.

Free Fishing App

Been lurking for awhile here (just waiting for the fluke bite to finally pick up this season), but a coworker convinced me to share a project I’ve been working on so I'm giving it a go. This is a 100% free, open-source fishing app I built a few months ago because I got tired of paywalled ones.

I designed it for saltwater surf fishing, but it should work just as well for freshwater.

  • Direct Link: https://krumenja.com/currentcast/ (You can run it directly in your browser or install it as an app from the browser. Android users can also download it directly via the GitHub/Android button).

More Info:

There are no sign-ups, no ads, and no paywalls. All your data is saved completely locally to your device. It's free and open source so you can do with it what you will - change it, make improvements, make sure it's safe, whatever. I've been using it for about 2 months to figure out if I'm going to fish on the weekends and it hasn't let me down yet.

Here is exactly what’s included:

Map

  • Satellite imagery that switches to road overlay when you zoom in
  • Search any address, city, ZIP, or coordinates
  • Tap the map to pin any location and get a full forecast
  • GPS button to center on your current position
  • Save unlimited named fishing spots - star one as your default and it loads automatically when you open the app
  • Fish catch log: tap the 🐟 button to record a catch at any map location, with optional weather snapshot

Forecast tab

  • 10-day weather forecast with hourly breakdown - tap any day
  • Severe weather alerts from NOAA - red banner for warnings, yellow for watches, with full details on tap
  • Sea surface temperature - real ocean water temp, not air temp
  • Tide chart - NOAA hourly line graph + 7-day hi/lo table with exact times
  • Solunar periods - major and minor feeding windows overlaid on the fishing score
  • Lunar phase - 7-day moon strip with today's phase and cycle progress
  • Sunrise & Sunset - with daylight hours for each day
  • Wind speed, cloud cover, and barometric pressure - hourly graphs
  • Fishing Score - Hourly 0-100 score from 9 factors: lunar phase, solunar periods, tide direction, baro trend, wind, water temp, and more.

I am not capturing emails or any personal information. Your data stays on your device. However, I use Google Analytics on the site and a basic API monitoring tool that sends me a report if the backend crashes so I can fix it. Nothing sketchy, but I want to be transparent.

I’m looking to maintain and improve this when possible, so check it out and let me know your thoughts, if you have questions, or if you end up using it.

(And mods, if I missed a self-promo rule here, just let me know. I'm not getting anything from this; I really just wanted to share something I thought would be useful.)

Avalon/sea isle area- what should you target this time of year?

Any suggestions of what to target/how to target anything this time of year in the Avalon/sea isle area? Ideally from a dock or jetty in bay but on the surf also an option. Thanks for any help

New boat owner, are we totally at the mercy of crabbers dropping wherever they want?

So I'm new and docking on a creek off the Mullica. Ours has two small marinas and is pretty busy. There's crabbers leaving 8-10 crab traps right in the middle of the major transition from the creek to the Mullica. Like dead out middle channel. Is there something to do about this?

What leader/hook/weight should I use for surf or jetty fishing?

I am just generally trying to catch fish with bait off surf or jetty near Sea Isle NJ. I have a reel rigged up with 30lb braid but not sure what weight/leader or hook to use. Any words of wisdom? Thank you
