Looking for advice
Council damaged our driveway and front lawn with no prior notice, affecting our ability to work
Not sure if this is the right place for this, so feel free to remove if not appropriate
This morning, the council carried out underground pipework directly on our driveway without providing any prior notice. The work began at 8am, waking our dogs and catching us completely off guard
The driveway is now cracked up and uneven, and we've been told we cannot drive over the affected section for two days while the asphalt cures. This is a real problem for us, as our work van is parked inside the property and we rely on it daily for our business.
On top of that, they drove over our grass curb and destroyed it. Their solution was to replace it with a completely different soil type and a different grass variety that doesn't match what we had. Now we're left trying to maintain grass that has different watering and care needs to the rest of our lawn, making upkeep harder and the whole frontage look inconsistent and patchy
I believe the council should have, at minimum, provided at least a day's notice so we could have made alternative arrangements. The repair work itself is also substandard; the asphalt hasn't been levelled properly and should have been patched with concrete or at least finished to an even standard. And the grass and soil should have been replaced like-for-like, not with whatever they had on hand
Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any advice on how to approach the council to have the driveway redone properly, the grass curb restored to its original state, and to address the complete lack of communication? Thanks to all in advance
Edit:
Appreciate all the replies. I understand it's council land, my issue was never about ownership, it's the lack of communication and the standard of work left behind.
I'll be contacting the council and my local councillor to get it sorted, Cheers
