Need help with Metro - Redux - Cursed, ranger hardcore survivalist

Just bought the game on steam sale at 90% off.

Stuck, need help with the BOMB at Cursed.

I run (avoiding everything) and grab the bomb ok, but when I go to place it I am just ganked by tons of mutants coming out of the placement animation. Insta killed.

I have plenty of bullets (shambler and kalash), but if I try to kill mutants just before placing the bomb I cannot do enough damage, mutants are tanking 5 point blank shambler shots, and I just get ganked again. I can't run passed them to make some space because of the narrowing of the tunnel here. (I am on redux so the weapons do no damage even on ranger hard core)

My throw is completely fucked, it often fails to throw, so i wildly flail around mashing the 'c' key hoping it will work, but nope. I was hoping to throw fire behind me before placing the bomb but the game engine hates me. So i get ganked again.

Totally admit to skill issue, so upskill me. How do I remove this curse?

EDIT: I got it, I had to throw a molotov just before the bomb placement site (in front of me as I was running, not behind me) then jump thru the fire, this protected me from mutants behind me. I was 99% dead so after bomb placement animation it gave me time to heal AND the fire had killed the mutants, ran back to survivors to wipe my ass and low and behold a check point :-).... blew up the ceiling and now Khan has bugged out and is making shadow puppets on the wall.

Best mods to use on 1145g7 igpu 16gb ram

I played this game years ago and loved it but had a full desktop gaming computer.

Now i have a dell laptop with no d-gpu, just 1145g7 iris xe 80eu with 16gb ram.

What mods should I install which won't degrade performance?

Happy to overhaul or remain vanilla-ish.

:-)

edit: I installed LAA to increase game ram from 2gb to 4gb, then Redux, then Reshade Realistic and playing at 1080p on med to low settings, DX9, seems to be going well after an hour or 2 of gaming, stable no crashes, and good playability/performance (not sure what FPS tho).
