Do I need an Emergency Passport or risk it for the biscuit?
I am leaving for Italy for my honeymoon from US Aug 30 and returning Sept 6. My passport expires 177 days from Sept 6. My travel agent is recommending I get an Emergency Passport (\~$1000) from HelloGov. I can mail mine in today (Aug 18) and overnight ship it & receive new one in \~ 4 business days. (Don’t ask why we are figuring this out 11 days before I leave)
edit — my agent mailed in her passport days ago for an Aug 29th trip so she is using the same system and says it’s reputable …
Everything I read online said Italy only requires a 3 month validity post-deport date. But she has heard of clients getting turned away if < 6 months or 180 days.
Has anyone experienced this? Should I pay the $1000 and hope I get my passport in time? Or risk it at Italy customs?
I also read that American Airlines might cause a stink when I go to check in with passport info.
