Crochet Tie-dye Dress

Hi everyone! I was told by r/crochet that I should really post this here as well. I made this full circle skirt crochet dress out of white cotton and tie-dyed it in a double rainbow spiral pattern! Hope you enjoy :)

Tie-dye Dress

I work in a preschool classroom and for the last week of school we did spirit week, the last day being favorite color/tie dye day, which was announced about 3 weeks ahead of time. The weekend after I was out with a coworker who suggested I crochet and tie-dye a skirt, but I didn't want to deal with the waistband and everything (if anyone has suggestions on easy ways for skirts, feel free to let me know!), so I immediately said there's no way I'll have time. The next day I had bought all 15 skeins of white cotton our local Michaels had in stock (and another 12 halfway through), and a couple of the Procion MX Large tie-dye kits.

This is a full circle skirt done in DC, there was some gapping under the arms so the last night before spirit week I managed to pull it in by folding and stitching and the spin on this is just perfection I could not be happier. Just had to share!

EDIT:

First I want to thank everyone for all of the upvotes and positive comments! It's been amazing to read all of them and connect with the community 🥰🧶

Also, for anyone looking to do a similar project (which I LOVE the idea of and can't wait to see!) I want to share a couple sizing details given the use of not preshrunk cotton.

I sized up about 20%. I did still then have to pull in the bodice and shorten the straps by folding them under and sewing them, but I think that's what I'd do in the future to ensure a good fit.

I also sized up my hook. The yarn I used calls for a 5.0 and I tend to crochet very tightly, and didn't want to lose the drape and stitch definition after shrinking, so I used a 6.0 just to ensure that I wouldn't get extremely dense fabric. If you crochet loosely, it likely wouldn't be an issue, but it's certainly something to keep in mind.

Again thank you all and I can't wait to see more crochet tie-dye in the future!

MIMIKYU

I made this massive 27" tall, 32.5 inch ear span Mimikyu with a 19 inch long tail and a turnable head. She was a gift for my supervisor who left our organization and was meant to be small like most of my going-away gifts, but the yarn (Loops and Threads Sweet Snuggles) and pattern (GeekArtMakee from Deviantart, free pattern can be found here https://www.deviantart.com/geekmakerart/art/Crochet-Mimikyu-full-size-874223737 ) dictated otherwise.

The pattern has you close the head but given these proportions, I left it open and made a neck piece to go inside and help balance/offset the weight of the head and ears; it also allows the head to turn. I connected the neck to the head with cotton chains to avoid the chenille snapping over time with movement and friction, then sewed the MR tail in, in such a way as to cover where the cotton was visible at the top of the head.

You can also see how I used pins, color coded, to map out the entire face before starting on embroidery. if you choose to use this pattern, I would recommend that to connect the black layer at the bottom to the yellow, that you use FLO when you connect your yellow feet, and use the BLO to connect them. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask :) i only have the specs on her because I got excited by how massive she came out.
