NSFW Blood clots

I recently found out that my subserosal fibroids has doubled in thickness in about 18 months. I have an IUD and no longer get regular periods. I have not had any blood clots larger than the size of a fingernail or dime in I don’t know how long - maybe ever.

Today I went to the washroom and this was in the toilet. I know clots are normal during periods, but I don’t really get full periods anymore since getting an IUD. I get symptoms of periods (cramping, acne, bloating etc) and will maybe get one day of light to moderate flow followed by a few days of spotting. I would say since beginning of June I’ve had a light period or days of spotting 4-5 times.

I realize this is likely a small clot compared to what some women deal with, but as it’s a new experience for me to have one larger than a fingernail or dime, I am just looking for some reassurance or advice.

Questions about mini strokes

My 78 year old dad likely had a mini stroke today. My mom and he were sitting outside, he went in to use washroom and when he came back outside she heard him make a noise. He was frozen on the step to go from the house to the backyard. My mom said it looked like his legs were barely holding him up and when she tried to move his arms, they were tight as if he were a statue not able to move them. She ended up having him put his hands against the fence while she got him a chair. She had to help him sit in the chair as he was not able to do so on his own. After a few minutes he was able to communicate and say that he wanted to go inside and rest. My mom had to help him walk to his bed where he slept for about an hour. When he woke up, she said he was able to move around and do the stairs to the basement. She did not call 911 and did not take him to hospital because she was barely able to get him into a chair and didn’t think she could manage getting him to the car to take him. She has told me and him that if something similar happens again, she will call 911 and have them take him in for assessment.

  1. Was this a mini stroke or something else? He had been outside in the sunshine and I know that that sometimes makes him feel delirious especially if he hasn’t had enough water.
  2. What is the time frame for getting assessed after an event like this? Is a trip to hospital necessary every time one occurs?
  3. Was it safe for him to sleep after this event?

Vascular Dementia Progress

My dad is 78 and had a stroke in 2019. He began to deteriorate slowly over Covid when we were back and forth between lockdowns and gradually deteriorated more and was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2024. I have asked my mom, who is caretaking him at home despite having her own health issues, to let me know when he has an accident such as a fall. I would rather know than not know, but she has said that I don't need to add that worry to my life and she will take care of it. I went to visit my parents on the weekend and both of my dad's knees were bandaged up (when he falls, he always falls forward and also scrapes his knees trying to get up). I find out that he had fallen 3 times in the previous 2 days. He also napped after coming home from his weekly dementia day program yesterday and went to bed early - I think the stimulation of the program tires him out.

I understand that vascular dementia can have gradual progression and kind of moves like a stairwell, but that people can also degenerate quickly. I also know this disease is not the same for each person. My mom is the caretaker and lives at my childhood home with him, so ultimately she is making the decisions, however, I am thinking that if he continues to have multiple falls in a short period of time, he might be having mini-strokes and should be checked out at emerg, or, at the very least, connect with his family doctor. Every time I am at my parents' house and I see him take the stairs, I hold my breath because his movements are just so unsteady and awkward.

Based on your experiences, what would you suggest if multiple falls in a short period of time happen again?

Fibroid doubled in thickness

I am 42 years old and have had a subserosal fibroid for years. I believe it was first discovered in my early 20s. It grew slowly over the years - stayed at 4 or 5 cms for quite a while. In October 2024, I had a Mirena IUD inserted. I had to have an ultrasound ahead of the procedure to make sure my fibroid was not block where IUD would need to go. At that time, my fibroid was 10cm x 9.4cm x 4.5 cms.

In the past few months, I have been experiencing intermittent low back pain, cramping, increased urination, and also my abdominal and pelvic areas routinely feel heavy and bloated. I spoke to my doctor and she agreed to send me for another ultrasound as it has been 2 years since IUD was inserted and therefore 2 years since fibroid was last measured.

The results show that the measurements are now 10.1cm (minimal growth) x 9.4cm (stayed the same)and 9.2 cms (more than doubled in thickness)

I only have the one fibroid, but it is quite large. My uterus was also labelled as "bulky" in the ultrasound report and there was also a 2.5cm x 2.6 cm septated cyst, which was identified as "almost certainly benign". The cyst is new.

I am looking for advice specifically about whether I should wait to see if it shrinks as I get closer to menopause, if I ask to have an ultrasound again in 4-6 months to see if there are any changes or if I consider some options for shrinking it or removing it. Thank you for any advice you can offer!
