My collection and story after 1 month

Finally got rid of all the fantasies, duplicates, and peg warmers I bought just to get some of these. 🎉

Anyway, if there's a new collector out there, here's my story.

I started collecting Hot Wheels about a month ago. At first, all I knew was that I loved die-casts. Most of my purchases came from local quick-commerce apps, and thanks to the convenience and a lot of FOMO, I ended up buying over 100 cars.

The problem was, I didn't really know what I liked and what I didn't.

Last week, I sat down, spread every single car out in front of me, and started appreciating each casting properly. Any casting that didn't feel worthy of a place in my collection had to go. After sorting through everything, I was left with just 29 cars (+5 that aren't currently with me) that I genuinely liked.

I started selling off the rest. Luckily, the very next day, a store near me got a major restock. I found multiple Ferrari 5-packs and singles, used them to make sets, and by today I've officially sold off all 60+ castings (not counting the Ferraris I specifically bought to be sacrificed).

The funny part? I actually made a profit. People were bidding on some castings that I personally didn't think were anything special, purely because of the hype. For example, Ferrari F1 mainlines. I never really liked F1 mainlines, so I sold every one I had.

Throughout this whole process, I learned the value of patience. I stopped chasing FOMO and started appreciating the art, design, and craftsmanship of the castings themselves rather than the hype that sometimes takes over this hobby.

So, from one novice collector to another: don't make the mistakes I did. I was lucky enough to get out without taking a loss, you might not be as fortunate. Before diving deep into this hobby, figure out what you actually like and dislike. Set your expectations early, collect what makes you happy, and don't let hype decide what belongs in your collection.
