In a different world, what if... Napoleon was never French? What if... he was born in Genoa (Genoa never sold to corsica) and remained a proud Italian?
In this new reality, Napoleon rises through the Genoese military, defeats Revolutionary France during the First Coalition War, and returns to Genoa as a national hero. In 1800, he seizes power, establishes a military government, and transforms Genoa through military, political, and liberal reforms.
After proclaiming himself Emperor of Genoa, Napoleon conquers Sardinia in 1803 and begins the long integration of Sardinia and Piedmont into his expanding Italian state.
By his death in 1825, Napoleon has transformed Genoa from an unstable republic into a centralized and powerful Italian Empire.
