New grad nurses / WGU BSN grads did you have trouble getting hired?

I’m a new grad RN trying to figure out my BSN options and I’m seriously considering Western Governors University because it fits my budget and schedule. I live in Southern California and I’ve noticed that a lot of hospitals here seem to prefer schools like CBU or Cal State programs and other traditional in-person BSN programs.

Because of that I’m a little worried about how WGU is viewed when it comes to hiring. I was wondering if anyone here who graduated from WGU’s BSN program or any new grad nurses in general have had experience with this. Were you able to get hired without issues, or did you run into any pushback from recruiters or hospitals because of WGU? If you’re in SoCal especially, did you feel like it made any difference in your job search?

I’m trying to be realistic about my options since in-person programs around here are really expensive, but I also don’t want to make a decision that could limit my chances of getting hired as a new grad.

Any honest experiences or advice would really help. Thank you.

Hey everyone! I’m a new grad RN considering relocating to New Orleans for a position at Ochsner Medical Center - Jefferson Highway and wanted to get some honest advice from locals/nurses in the area.

I’m trying to figure out what neighborhoods or apartment complexes are realistic on a new grad nurse salary. Ideally I’m looking for something affordable (trying to stay around $900–1300 if possible), in a relatively safe area, with a reasonable commute to Ochsner, and pet friendly since I have a pet.

I’ve been looking around Jefferson/Old Jefferson, Harahan, and Metairie, but it’s hard to tell what’s actually decent vs sketchy just from online listings. A few places I’ve come across are Riverside Commons, Studio Arms Apartments, Atrium Apartments, and Jefferson Oak Apartments, but I’d love to hear if anyone has experience with them or has better recommendations.

I’d really appreciate opinions on good apartment complexes, areas to avoid, realistic rent and utility costs, and whether living alone is doable as a new grad at Ochsner. Also if any nurses work/worked there, I’d love to hear about your experience and what the work environment is like.

Coming from California so this would be a huge move for me lol. Thanks so much 🙏

*** Edit, Idk why the post is flared that way 😹
