Genuine question for anyone else who bought a serger thinking it would make their sewing faster did you also almost return it three times in the first month?
Mine is a Brother 1034D. Cute little machine. Terrifying. The threading alone made me cry once. Not exaggerating.
What actually got me over the hump was learning three things in the right order:
The knot threading method. You tie new thread to old thread and pull it through. No more rethreading from scratch. Game changer.
How to actually read thread tension. A correct serger stitch looks the same on both sides. Once I knew what I was looking for, I could fix problems instead of guessing.
Differential feed isn't optional. It's what stops knit fabrics from going wavy. I had no idea this setting existed for the first four months.
I eventually did a structured course to fill in the rest of the gaps and I genuinely wish I'd done it sooner. Would have saved me so many ruined seams.
What was YOUR biggest serger breakthrough moment? Or if you're still stuck, drop your question I've probably made that mistake too 😄
