The Day the US Cut Off an ICC Judge's Digital Life
Read something today that stuck with me. The US sanctioned a few ICC judges over the arrest warrants against Netanyahu, and one of them basically got cut off from her entire digital life overnight. Online shopping stopped working, cloud storage locked, even her smart speaker stopped responding to her.
No trial, no hacking, just one executive order.
Why isn't more of the world reacting to this? It's easy to shrug it off as a niche diplomatic story, but it shows how much power sits with whoever controls the servers your life runs on. That should worry anyone, not just judges.
This is exactly why Europe needs to take its own digital infrastructure seriously. We keep talking about strategic autonomy for energy and defense, but our photos, backups, and daily accounts still run on servers an American president can reach with a signature. If the EU wants real sovereignty, that includes the cloud too.
