A avg American male wakes up in a room hehave never seen before and a gunman opens the door after 5 seconds to shoot shoot him in the head after which time restarts. How long does it take for him to defeat the gunman and leave the room?

The room:
- is fairly small
-contains a single bed with a blanket
- a bookshelf
- a chair
- a bat
- a vase
The gunman:
-is trained
-has two pistols fully loaded
-a flashlight
The gunman is waiting outside the door for the 5 seconds he isn't in the room and you will instantly die if you attempt to leave the room before defeating the gunman. The gunman is unaware that time is looping. How many loops does it take the avg person to win (if someone replies with 5 seconds I get the right to beat them with a hammer)
