I got the pirate hat. I equipped it for hours because it says it tells me where treasure chests are. I have not once noticed anything. I thought it would show a treasure chest icon on the map. It didn't. Finally decided to Google it.. the feather lights up when near a chest... I have my head gear hidden this whole time... So I wore a weak helmet for hours for no reasons and probably missed a lot of chests....

You get this hat on the south west side in the sea, where the pirate ship is. You can find a row boat at the shore to get to it.
