A jaguar named Gaspar makes an incredible journey of more than 2122 kilometers through the Amazon. In between, he spent time in his almost 2000 square kilometer territory. He crossed highways, cities and ranches.

In November 2024, the 8-year-old 94kg male was equipped with a collar. He then spent time in his 700 square kilometer territory on the Araguaia River before starting his journey on the Amazon on the border with the Cerrado. He ran a total of 2122 kilometers as the crow flies and his journey ended in late November 2025, as the signal of the collar was sadly lost. The entire route is probably even much more, says Morant. This Journey is one or the longest a cat ever made. Gaspar walked 381 days, on every day, he made about 10km, according to his collar, that means he wandered 3700-3800 kilometer overall. It might have been even more, but sadly, the signal of the collar stopped in November 2025. No one knows where he is now. Jon Morant names two different scenarios for this. Either his collar broke, or he was killed by people because he was in the middle of a settlement.

Very old hunting record of a rare pseudo-melanistic jaguar (which at the time was called Felis dorsalis, they thought it was a different species because of the different color) which measured 10 feet/3 meters in length with a body of 2 meters and a tail of 1 meters, shot in Pennsylvania in 1833.
