Which plot twist was the most predictable?

I think the most predictable one was probably either Belos being Philip or it being Lilith who cursed Eda. The other two were just too unexpected. Belos being Philip just made sense, how else would Belos know what the human realm is like and why else would his ears be so small compared to those of other witches. And Lilith cursing Eda could be guessed by process of elimination.

What’s an underrated episode?

Edge of the world is a really great episode but it tends to go overlooked because of it coming after Hollow mind. It’s the episode that King’s plot line has being building up to all season and it really delivers. The episode does an amazing job at progressing King’s character arc and utilises the more minor characters like Salty and Tarak effectively. The big thing about the episode is obviously the twist and it’s easily my favourite in the show, King being a titan had been well foreshadowed without it being too obvious and for it to be revealed while they’re on a place called titan trapper island was just insane. The episode also end on a pretty good cliffhanger that keeps you excited for the next few episodes. There isn’t really anything about the episode I dislike. At worst I’d say Bill isn’t the most compelling antagonist but I think he makes for a neat parallel to Belos so he’s a good enough villain for me.

Opinion: Out of all the characters King has the most development.

King goes though a ton of growth. He is constantly learning new lessons at a natural pace to the point where you often don’t even realise just how much he’s changed. He develops an extremely close bond with Luz and then has to learn to not be too clingy. He starts out as immature, selfish and egotistical yet ends up being one of the most mature, selfless and humble characters. Aspects of his personality take a completely 180 yet it never feels rushed or unnatural. This is well highlighted by season 3 through paring him up with the Collector with the difference in their levels of maturity showcasing just how far King has come. His development and the way it ties into the themes of identity, self-acceptance, fantasy vs reality and loneliness is close to unmatched by many of the other characters.

There are other characters with a lot of development but I don’t think any of them have more development than King. The only possible exception is Luz, she’s the main character so course she’s gonna have a lot of development, I kinda flip-flop between them for who has the most development but I feel pretty confident in giving King that crown though I’d like to hear who the fandom thinks had the most development.

So what happened to Hunter?

Hunter’s not my favourite character or anything but I find it strange how little I see him on the subreddit. He used to be the most popular character in the show. What changed? Did the entire fandom switch up on him or smth? Or is it just a coincidence that I’m not seeing him a lot on here these days?

The promo arts for King’s tide where baiting King dying so hard 😭

Art by Bridget Underwood, Mike Austin and Rebecca Bozza

They had to have known what they were doing with this. They send the whole fandom into a panic thinking King would possibly die.

Strange how in some of the storyboards for Clouds on the horizon Amity is wearing the portal key instead of her usual necklace

Maybe she was originally gonna have a key necklace instead of a crescent moon necklace? It could also be possible that this is just the result of the second half of the season needing to be rewritten due to the cancellation, maybe Amity was originally gonna play a bigger role in this part of the story but then that had to be changed because of a lack of time.

Funfact: King is seen with ducky themed objects 3 times in the first 4 episodes

I don’t know if it means anything but it’s strange that it happened thrice.

I kinda wish Willow and Gus were more relevant later on

The hexsquad started out as just Luz, Willow and Gus yet by the end Willow and Gus were pushed to the wayside in favour of Hunter and Amity. I know it’s cause Hunter and Amity are more important characters and there would’ve probably been more of Willow and Gus if there was more time but it still kinda sucks that they ended up drawing the short end of the stick cause Willow and Gus are really fun characters. Willow had it the better of the two with her at least getting a somewhat satisfying even if a little rushed end to her arc in For the future but Gus just straight up got nothing past Labyrinth runners even though he saw all of Belos’s memories and knew Hunter was a grimwalker the whole time. If we ever get another graphic novel I hope it’ll center around one of these two cause they deserved so much better.

King’s writing in season 1 is so overlooked

I think people wrote him off as just comic relief to early. He’s actually one of the best written characters in season 1. He develops a close bond with Luz, has a fun dynamic with Eda, and he has depth and development. Sure it’s not the most depth or development in the world but it’s also only the first season so that goes for almost every character. At least people stopped overlooking him in season 2.

I head canon that a titan’s wings are already developed under the skin and just break through the skin on the back one day. Would leave quite a bloody mess but at least you got wings now.

“A king shouldn’t be without a crown”

“A witch always needs to have her hat”

Also them doing a similar pose while being protective of their loved ones.

Last one is pretty obvious in The intruder, they both don’t get taken seriously at all.

This is obviously excluding the “Byeeeeeeeee!” at the end since that”s everyone’s final line. Eda and King’s final line being “Weirdos.” feels very fitting. Belos’s final line also fits well with his character. Amity’s final line fits pretty well too I think since redemption is a pretty big part of her character so “We wanted to make it up to you.” fits in my opinion. Hooty’s final line isn’t even from Watching and dreaming which is a bit disappointing. I think Hunter and Raine could’ve had better final lines, they don’t even say anything in the epilogue. The rest all have decent final lines Ig.

They’re 2 of the 3 main characters yet they got less screen time than side characters like the hexsquad. I know the hexsquad is important too but Eda and King barely appearing in the final season until the last episode is a little bit disappointing. A lot of their part of the story happened of screen(Lilith being freed, getting Eda out of her owl beast form, etc) and it would’ve been cool to get at least a little of that in the show.

u/KingtheClawthorne — 19 days ago

On my lastest rewatch it felt like past season 1(for obvious reasons) Hunter had more screen time than Amity which is kinda insane considering that Amity is arguably the 4th most important character in the entire show. So I counted and Hunter plays a major role in the A-plots of 8 episodes(Seperate tides, Hunting palisman, Eclipse lake, Any sport in a storm, Hollow mind, Labyrinth runners, Thanks to them & For the future) while Amity past season 1 plays a major role in the A-plots of 5 episodes(Escaping expulsion, Eclipse lake, Follies at the coven day parade, Reaching out & Clouds on the horizon) though she also plays a major role in the B-plots of 2 episodes(Through the looking glass ruins & Labyrinth runners) and does get some screen time in Thanks to them and For the future. Nothing against this, Amity already had a whole season to get screen time before Hunter even made his proper debut and the show getting cancelled meant that the writers had to speedrun Hunter’s arc which required a lot of screen time but I still find it a bit crazy how much screen time he got, no wonder he became a fan favourite during seasons 2 and 3 with how much screen time he got(which should’ve been even more but Disney stole screen time from every character).

u/KingtheClawthorne — 20 days ago

I’ve seen so many people say that if the show hadn’t been cut short that then Hollow mind would’ve been the season 2 finale and I just don’t get where this idea comes from. The entirety of season 2b was written only after the cancellation so I’m not even sure if an episode like Hollow mind was even gonna exist at all but assuming that a similar episode was always planned I still don’t get why people think it was gonna be the season finale. It’s a good episode don’t get me wrong but it doesn’t really have season finale vibes at all, at least in my opinion.

Edge of the world is so messed up it’s genuinely sickening. They really put an 8 year old through the most gruesome traumatizing experience possible. The titan trappers murdering children and wearing their skin and bones just makes me sick, how was this even allowed by Disney???

Poor King, thought he finally found his family only to find out that his entire family is gone :(

u/KingtheClawthorne — 23 days ago

When it comes to character writing the owl house kinda just succeeds at everything. Almost every character gets you interested from the moment they’re introduced till the final seconds of the finale.

The character designs may not be the most importantly part for why the characters are so good but they do at to it. All the characters have very good and different designs with them being easily associated with certain colors(Willow and Green, Eda and red, Amity and purple, etc) but the designs also utilise shapes well. Willows design uses a lot of circles giving her a fitting friendly vibe, Amity’s design is a lot sharper showing her rough exterior, so on and on. Backstories are something the show also just does right, no backstory feels too similar to another, they all do a great job at giving context to the characters actions and range from simple like King’s backstory or Amity’s backstory to quite complicated as is best seen with Eda with lots of events in her past shaping her into who she is at the start of the show. Character development is something the show absolutely excels in. The characters are constantly changing and evolving learning new lessons every episodes both in small and big ways and in no character is this more noticeable than in Amity Blight who goes from an easily dislikeable stuck-up bully to a heroine you can’t help but root for and it’s done very naturally to the point that you don’t even realise your opinion has done a completely 180 on her. It’s very easy to root for the characters because of their relatable struggles, both internal and external. Examples of both can be found in every major character, King who struggles to be taken seriously due to his appearance with him overcompensating for it with his king of demons persona which he gained from how Eda raised him, Willow who struggles with her self-confidence as a result of being in a class she’s bad at and being bullied and looked down upon as half-a-witch Willow for years, Luz who had to overcome the fact she as a human couldn’t do magic the same way witches can, and it just goes on like that for every character. The characters different personalities play of each other wonderfully, I especially enjoy the dynamics of the main trio, and who could forget the most popular dynamic of them all, Lumity. Lumity is a perfect example of why the dynamics in the owl house are so good, their personalities create very memorable character interactions and help encourage character development in each other, Amity’s whole redemption arc is kicked off by meeting Luz and Luz develops a ton through her relationship with Amity, their relationship grows so much throughout the show from rivals to friends to lovers and it’s just an absolute joy to watch. What makes the characters personality traits truly shine are the parallels and foils. In season 3 the Collector foils King(I’m pretty sure the Collector was even specifically made to be a foil to King first and foremost), the Collector’s immaturity contrasts heavily with the maturity King has acquired over the past 2 seasons which highlights King’s character development. The parallels between Luz and Eda show that despite what you might at first think, they actually do have a lot in common, making their bond even more special than it already is. Most importantly of all, the show manages to put it’s themes at the center of all the characters, Luz, Eda, King, and almost every major character to some extend struggle with loneliness which makes the weirdos sticking together theme so incredibly powerful. The themes of found family and self acceptance can be found in every major characters and slightly less prominent themes such as escapism can still be found in the majority of the cast. This makes it so everything is very coherent and no character feels like they’re out of place. Even the Collector who you would expect to not quite fit into the story due to how late he’s introduced manages to slot in quite nicely because he serves as a foils to King and fits perfectly with the already established themes of the show.

The owl house is an incredible show. There aren’t many shows each decade that you can call truly exceptional but despite Disney trying their damnedest to ruin the show they didn’t succeed cause the writters knew that focusing on the characters was the most important thing to do with the little time they had, so even if a few plot points were left behind it quite frankly doesn’t matter much when the characters we got are this great. I won’t forget Luz, Eda, King, and the rest of the cast probably for as long as I’ll live. They’ve made their mark and I won’t be surprised if in 10 years they still have their dedicated fanbases.

Vee despite only making a major appearance in 2 episodes has managed to become one of the most beloved and memorable characters. This is for good reason because her character does everything a side character should do to become memorable in as short amount of time as possible. For one, she has a really good character design, both her basilisk form and human disguise are absolutely adorable which fits well with her cinnamon roll personality. Writing wise she also has the hallmarks of a good character, she has a backstory that makes her extremely sympathetic, she feels complex emotions(specifically in relation to Luz running away), she has some development even if it isn’t a lot due to how little screen time she has and most interestingly she subverts the evil doppelgänger trope by not having any malicious intent behind taking Luz’s identity. Besides these reasons there are also other factors behind why she’s so memorable like her having a great voice actress and her crush on Masha having a lot of potential for fanfics.
