Hello fine folks of datingadvice. I have been single since February after a seven year relationship and am back on trying the apps.
One frustrating thing I have noticed recently is that three men now have messaged me and on checking their profile I see that they have put that they are “not looking for anything serious”. When I asked them about this, all of them said words to the effect of they “need to update their profile” as they are “definitely looking for something serious”. Every one of them has also immediately or soon afterwards updated their profile to dating, long-term, etc.
I obviously don’t trust this off the bat, especially seeing as it has happened multiple times now in a matter of weeks, but the question is should I even entertain these men or should I take what I initially saw on their profile at face value?
Could it really be that they recently came back to the apps after a period of not dating. Created the profile a while ago and just haven’t updated it? Selected that they weren’t after anything serious but have since changed their minds? Surely it isn’t worth the effort of changing it just to trick someone into sleeping with them?
I did not have much experience with the apps seven years ago and am fresh back on them now, but it seems like the entire experience is so different!
