Hi dear folks, I was repairing an olivetti dora & it wouldn't hold tension so I opened it up to find that the mainspring was snapped clean in the middle. 😞

I live in a country where typewriters aren't very common so I've had no luck finding a donor part/machine, though I've looked for months!

my question is- is there any way to fix the broken mainspring? if it were broken near the end I could heat it & bend it, but this one is broken in the middle. I was thinking of drilling 2 small holes through either end & using a teeny weeny rivet & hammering it all back together. Either that or soldering, but I don't have silver solder or a torch (I do have lead/tin solder though, will it stick to the mainspring material??)

If anyone has had experience fixing a broken mainspring please let me know! Open to all suggestions and ideas.

Keep well and have a lovely day ahead : )
