Through the Darkness

A Shinkansen cutting through the rail corridors of central Tokyo near Ginza at dawn.

I wanted to emphasise the contrast between isolation and motion — the train emerging as the only real source of light amongst the dense urban infrastructure surrounding it.

Captured with the Sony A7R IV and Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2.

A quiet autumn morning somewhere in Japan 🍂

An older photo I captured years ago on the Samsung S22 Ultra in RAW during a rainy, fog-covered morning. Revisiting old images is always interesting — sometimes the mood and atmosphere stand out more with time than the technical perfection ever did.The mist, reflections, and muted autumn colours still remind me why Japan feels so calming and cinematic to photograph.

Golden light Geographe Bay

Golden light breaking through storm clouds over a lone sailboat anchored in the calm waters of Geographe Bay near Dunsborough. Captured during a peaceful sunset as soft reflections and pastel tones spread across the bay after passing rain.

Taken with a DJI Mini 4 Pro in Western Australia.

Sugarloaf Rock - Cape Naturaliste

Storm light breaking over Sugarloaf Rock along the Cape Naturaliste coastline near Dunsborough, Western Australia.

One of those evenings where the weather changed every few minutes — dark incoming clouds, cold ocean wind, and a brief burst of light across the water before the sunset disappeared again.

Taken on the Sony A7R IV paired with the Sony FE 35mm F1.4 GM.

Been a while since I’ve gone out specifically to shoot landscapes, so I’ve been trying to get back into it and spend more time behind the camera again. Any critique or feedback is welcome.

Lately I’ve also been a bit unsure how far to push edits compared to the heavier HDR / ultra-processed landscape style that was really popular through the 2000s and early 2010s. Trying to find a balance between keeping the mood and atmosphere natural while still giving the image enough contrast and impact.
