Is it worth reviving an inactive 2024 shop or start fresh
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some strategic advice regarding my current shop and would love to hear your experiences with account longevity versus starting fresh.
I opened my Etsy shop in 2024, but it sat dormant for a long time. About two months ago, I decided to commit to it properly. I’ve been consistent with daily listings and have put a significant amount of effort into optimizing my store. So far, I’ve had about 100 views in these last two months and 5 sales.
While I’m happy to see those initial conversions, I’m trying to decide on the best path for long term growth. My primary concern is the shop’s "historical baggage." I am wondering if the algorithm views an older, previously inactive account differently than a brand new one.
Specifically, I’d love your insights on two points:
- Does a shop that was inactive for a long period suffer from a "stale" score in the algorithm? I’m weighing whether the existing history of the account provides any SEO benefit, or if the "reset" that comes with a brand-new shop would actually give me a better boost in search visibility.
- For those who have revived a dormant shop, did you find it difficult to gain traction, or did the existing sales history help you build credibility with buyers? I’m trying to determine if it is wiser to keep building on this foundation or if there is a tangible benefit to starting from scratch with a completely clean slate.
I’m fully committed to the work required to grow, but I want to make sure I’m setting myself up for the best possible start. If you’ve faced a similar dilemma, did you regret reviving your old shop?
