Hi everyone,
I’m seeing a pretty obvious display issue on my MacBook M1 Pro 2020 (mini-LED), and I’d like to understand if this is a known defect.
What happens:
- After waking from sleep, the display looks normal for a few seconds
- After ~5–15 seconds or maybe in 5-10 mins or more, distinct bright “spotlight” beams appear along the bottom edge
- It is clearly visible even on a uniform light/gray background (not just around bright objects)
- It gets much more visible at higher brightness and almost disappears at low brightness
Important details:
- Not visible in screenshots
- Not affected by lid angle
- Not affected by color profiles, Night Shift, True Tone, etc.
- Low Power Mode does not help
- Disappears after sleep, then comes back again after a few seconds or minutes
Attached photo shows the issue clearly.
This doesn’t look like typical mini-LED blooming (which appears around bright objects on dark backgrounds).
Questions:
- Has anyone seen this exact pattern on M1 Pro / M1 Max?
- Is this considered a hardware defect by Apple?
- Were you able to get a display replacement for this?
