Hi everyone,

I’m seeing a pretty obvious display issue on my MacBook M1 Pro 2020 (mini-LED), and I’d like to understand if this is a known defect.

What happens:

  • After waking from sleep, the display looks normal for a few seconds
  • After ~5–15 seconds or maybe in 5-10 mins or more, distinct bright “spotlight” beams appear along the bottom edge
  • It is clearly visible even on a uniform light/gray background (not just around bright objects)
  • It gets much more visible at higher brightness and almost disappears at low brightness

Important details:

  • Not visible in screenshots
  • Not affected by lid angle
  • Not affected by color profiles, Night Shift, True Tone, etc.
  • Low Power Mode does not help
  • Disappears after sleep, then comes back again after a few seconds or minutes

Attached photo shows the issue clearly.

This doesn’t look like typical mini-LED blooming (which appears around bright objects on dark backgrounds).

Questions:

  • Has anyone seen this exact pattern on M1 Pro / M1 Max?
  • Is this considered a hardware defect by Apple?
  • Were you able to get a display replacement for this?

Would really appreciate any insights.

Is it safe to leave the Watch 3 on the charger for a week?

Does it have any battery protection (like stopping at 100% or smart charging) to prevent battery wear?
