Over the weekend, I helped my mom sort some old stuff - organization nini nini - and I came across the many letters that I had written to her over the years as a teenager. I can't believe she kept all of them.
I was a weird teen y'all! Quirky, quiet, introverted and in my feelings a lot. And she took the time to address all of my issues. I felt heard and understood. It is so evident just from this letter alone that she was my whole world growing up. Ni kama kulikuwa na some secure attachment in my formative years juu mbona nilikuwa naandika hii mambo yote sasa...😄.
Lord knows she is still the best thing that has ever happened to me. And I hope my daughter feels secure in me to write these kind of paragraphs too. 🥹
Survival mode has to be the worst phase of adulting. You work like a donkey - above & beyond, extra mile, exceeding expectations - to build some other person's dreams for a paycheck at the end of the month which you have to put towards bills, food and making sure there's a roof over your head with internet and lights. Naah. An iphone 17 and 200 bob in my handbag cannot be it. One of my goals this year is to get out of survival mode.
But how do you become truly free? I think for one to get to a point of financial freedom, you have to do something so radical and so out of your comfort zone that the very thought of it scares you. Well ... high risk high reward, they say.
