So I didn’t get a pilot slot. What now?
Didn’t get the slot. Stats were pretty decent but apparently this year was just more competitive. 93PCSM, 95.5 PFA, Middle third (this unfortunately was the killer), 3.4 GPA.
The question is now what to do. Ive built my entire life around getting this (I know that relying on getting a slot isn’t a good thing but I truly believed I was fine). Now I’m sitting here with an ABM slot that wasn’t even on my T10 (I am also aware that for rated T10 didn’t matter). I go to a top 10 school in the nation, had tons of other options (including USAFA), but chose to do AFROTC without a scholarship because of my love and desire to serve my country by flying.
Looking at old stats didn’t help predict the future at all. Last year the low select was a 67 OM, I can tell you I was way above that.
Here’s the thing. My commander is telling me to hold on to genuine hope as I JUST missed the cutoff (according to him). My question to the folks on here would be if you or anyone you know actually got moved into a pilot slot from another rated job before graduating, and, if so, how far off were you from the original pilot cut line? I just want to know for sure if there is legitimate hope for me getting moved or not so I can be at peace.
Regardless, my life is sorta a mess right now. Everyone knows what my goals were, and it’s honestly embarrassing going to a T10 school and not getting something that has a ~60% acceptance rate.
Im sorry for the vent everyone. I would be so appreciative of some advice.
