Army National Guard to Air Force ROTC
I’m currently in the Army National Guard on a 3x5 contract and have been in for about 8 months. I’m currently in AIT.
I’ve been seriously considering becoming an Air Force officer through AFROTC. My plan is to start AFROTC while finishing my degree, and by the time I would actually commission, my 3-year Selected Reserve obligation should already be complete.
If that’s the case, is getting a DD Form 368 (Conditional Release) usually pretty straightforward, or can units still make it difficult even after the 3-year obligation is over?
Has anyone here gone through something similar?
Possible afscs
Hello all! Recent ft grad here. I study applied physics, or as the af likes to call it “engineering physics”. I was looking into afscs and as I haven’t been able to meet many people in the career fields, I am now asking Reddit.
What I am looking for in an afsc:
Something R&D that allows me to use my degree while, for the most part, staying stateside. I also do not plan on staying the full 20 years and I’d like to look out for myself if anything were to happen, so I would also like something that can transfer to the civilian sector well (contracting or engineering). The last part is I’d like to stay somewhere that is decently populated (San Antonio, Langley, etc)
With all that being said, possible choices for me are 61D, 62E and 15A. I am leaning towards 15A.
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated!
Fitness tips
I’m a incoming freshman starting afrotc in the fall, and I’ve been training to get above a 90 before NSO in late August. I have progressed in both my sit ups and my run, but my push ups haven’t progressed past about 52. I have a good bench press, I have been consistently working out for like a year, but for some reason my push ups just don’t progress. Any tips to help raise my score?
Field Training PFA
Is it the 1.5 mile for every MAX? It says the 2 mile starts July 1st but does that pertain to FT?
FT Cadet Cadre Pay
About to go as cadet cadre. Does anyone who's already been know how much we get paid, or when we get paid? Trying to plan ahead...
Pregnancy
I have informed cadre I am pregnant and they are looking into it but wanted to ask here.
Just commissioned and i am pregnant. My EAD is Aug 14 and I’ll be headed to Keesler for school.
Are they going to kick me out of the AF or move things around if I can’t complete tech school because of the pregnancy.
Thank you for any help!
Can I use this belt
Im heading out to field training for Afrotc and I wanted to know if I could use like a rigger belt instead of the det issued ones. I heard you could but idk what to get specifically cause I heard its worth buying a nicer belt.
AFOQT
Should I study AFOQT if I am an incoming sophomore in AS200? I am switching from the academy to Air Force ROTC thus, I was able to skip AS100. Thank you!
13H Selects
Is there anyone out there that got Aerospace Physiology?
What Have You Heard About the CMLA
I spoke with cadre about the scholarship, and they said the last thing they heard was that, at least for the class that’s applying for PSP this upcoming fall, there won’t be any changes compared to previous years. That said, they acknowledged they’ve heard talks that at least 50% of cadets may receive the scholarship in the future and that it won’t be guaranteed anymore, but as of now, the plan seems to remain as it has been.
Every official source online I’ve seen shows no changes, but I’ve heard the rumors, so I’m wondering if anyone has heard anything different at your detachment.
*Sorry if this post sounds redundant. I just heard something that doesn’t seem to fully align with what I’ve heard, so I was curious to hear what others have to say about it, at least in terms for the upcoming PSP applicants.
DODMERB Down?
I'm joining AFROTC as a sophomore this upcoming semester, so I wanted to start the DODMERB early, and I reached out to the ROTC commander about starting it last week. I still haven't received an email back from DODMERB, so I reached out to my commander, and he said DMACS/DODMERB is down for the next few weeks. Can anyone else confirm that?
Unusual Field Training Items
Many people learn to bring items like cough drops, duct tape, laundry bags, zip ties, and more to field training;
My question is what are some of the more unusual items you have seen or people have brought to FT to make it through? For example, smelling salts to stay awake, rope for multi purpose use, flashlights with red lights to not get in trouble during lights out*, etc… Maxwell brings out the creativity in people whether it’s through eating food in 8 minutes, staying awake, or solving GLP’s/LRC’s
Mass Placeholder EADs? Sep 30
BLUF: Does anyone have insight into when the next "round" of EADs should come out, and perhaps why there is such a delay in releasing such a large number of them?
Was never told my EAD until two weeks ago, when I was told I have the Sep 30 placeholder... Does anyone have literally ANY possible idea as to when the next real round of EADs will come out? Our cadre really doesn't give us any insight into anything on their side, and they just tell us to watch our email. It makes it quite difficult to plan life with a lease running out and jobs to find in the meantime. Especially weird to be 92T0 and still have no dates, when in years past most everyone had dates in January before commissioning—let alone pilots traditionally have quite early dates. But I also know that this delay seems to be affecting every career field
Reserves
Hello! I’m interested in joining the reserves as a pilot and was curious how competitive I am. I got a 90 Pilot score on AFOQT and total PCSM is 99. I am currently a civilian CFI with 700 total flight hours. Degree in aviation from a part 141 school and 3.84 GPA.
I honestly don’t know how competitive this is, but I talked to a recruiter and they told me to complete AFOQT and TBAS so thats what I did. Should I retake the AFOQT to get a better score? Just curious to see if anyone has insight on whether or not Im competitive currently. Thanks!
Do you still have to go through dodmerb if you’ve successfully gone through Meps?

Potential disqualification
For context I’m starting afrotc this fall and feeling a bit behind in the sense that I didn’t do jr rotc in high school and I’m going in as a transfer sophmore at a university. After high school I started taking online classes that summer and working at the airport I was taking flight lessons at, and I will just say my gpa was not the best… I wish I knew sooner what I wanted to do with myself, I had always wanted to be a usaf pilot and just decided I would rather go all in than watch the years pass by never knowing if I would’ve made it.
The thing I am most nervous about is meps since its not something I can just study for and ace. So I had an incident about three or four years ago where I had a really really bad day and took a few too many benadryls. I didn’t want to actually die or anything I don’t know what I thought I would get out of it, I was just stupid. But through another thing that happened the following day that led to me telling my parents and they called the pediatrician (lol). I went to get checked up the next day and everything was fine. It was defineitly an isolated incident and I have been fine and happy since. I guess technically this would be considered a form of self harm? I just want to know if my dreams are down the gutter.
Edit: I had a 3.8 gpa in high school (I can maintain a good gpa) and the college only counts the credits you take at their school for gpa so my ass gpa doesn’t transfer
How difficult is it to get RCP-R commissioning and what steps should I take towards obtaining it?
reddit.comAFROTC vs. NROTC advice
Hi, I’m a graduated high school senior, becoming a freshman in the fall, and am struggling to decide between AFROTC and NROTC. My main goal is to commission as a pilot and that is where I am putting most of my energy towards. I have reservations about afrotc because I’ve heard it’s harder to become a pilot but I also have reservations about long deployments at sea with the navy. I have received both a 4-year NROTC and type 4 AFROTC scholarships, with the navy covering more, but fortunately money isn’t as much of a problem. I would be willing to fly any airframe so specifics don’t matter but also want to have other good options in case I don’t earn a pilot slot. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
December commission Pilot Training
For people who have commissioned in december and are pilot how far out was your EAD date?
