So I decided I’m getting a snake this summer and have been very excited about it! I’m doing all the research and getting super prepared before I go to a reptile expo in a few months. Something happened today that might’ve changed my mind about getting a snake.

I was in a pet shop looking at all the different critters, and I turn a corner and in a tub is a giant ball python with its owner standing over it. About 10 seconds later, a worker from the pet shop opens a paper bag into the tub and out drops a huge, live, freaked out rat. I couldn’t watch the whole thing but it felt so so sad and disturbing, just how poorly the rats and mice seemed to be treated and it also just gave me such a bad taste in my mouth about even getting a snake.

If I were to get a snake, I would definitely do frozen/thawed, never live. But this whole thing really gave me a bit of an ick, and it made me sad and I’m really going back and forth on having a snake as a pet. I know every animal needs to eat to live, but it just made me a little sad and sick. Has anyone else gone through this? Is this ridiculous?
