I [M18] found out that my friend’s [F18] closest friend [F18] has feelings for me
Ok, now when I say my friend (I’ll call her Jane) we’ve been friends for about two weeks, we started messaging over instagram after I replied to her story. The conversations are light, comedic and platonic on both ends. However, when I saw her in person (she was with this other friend, let’s say Mia) she gave me an awkward look.
After questioning the awkwardness later to Jane over messages, I found out that Mia has liked me for a long time but hasn’t acted on it, and it’s unknown to her that me and Jane have been messaging so much. Jane says that she didn’t want to tell Mia because it’s against “girl code” and it would be rubbing it in her face.
The problem is, she can’t hide this forever and yet this is one of her closest friends. I don’t have feelings for either of them, so any romance from my end is off the table. But, I would like to keep Jane as a friend, without offending Mia, and without damaging Mia and Jane’s close friendship. What can I say or do to keep my friendship alive without hindering theirs?
