Got this monstera, she a lil ugly and not thriving, do I cut where marked w red? How do I make it a happy pretty monstera, explain simply please, I’m no plant expert really 😭

I read that I needed to buy something for it to climb on, I know it probably needed to be done long ago, but I got this plant from my granny 🤞🏼 how do I do it, do I just put the stick in the dirt and tie the plant to it? Thank u
