A few years ago I started having symptoms that I recently figured out was all perimenopause. I had developed ADHD like symptoms, hot flashes more and more, terrible night sweats, itchy ears, sleeping poorly, pain during sex etc. I saw my psychiatrist, GP, sleep doctor and more, all to find my stuff was in “normal” ranges. Ive had all the bloodwork (vitmain c, thyroid, ferritin, etc.)
It came time to replace my Mirena in March so I asked my OB about all these things and almost right away she said “yep, perimenopause.” I was shocked but relieved. I’m only 37 but these symptoms have almost turned my life upside down and I thought I was going crazy.
I started on estradiol vaginal cream and twice weekly .0375mg patches. Almost overnight all my symptoms improved. I felt like a whole new person! It was so excited. However, that feeling lasted about two weeks. Since then all my symptoms have returned, and maybe only a LITTLE better than they were previous to starting the regimen.
I made another appointment but it’s not for a bit. I’m curious if this means I just need higher doses? Does the delivery form matter? Is it an indication it’s just not for me? Thanks for any insight :)
