Idea Thoughts/Feedback Wanted [dark fantasy]

Dark Fantasy Concept, Could Use Some Feedback

Been rolling the grain of an idea around in my head for a while, and I think it might help to hear some other perspectives on it. Questions, suggestions, just prodding my brain to make it work. Something isn't clicking but I have no idea what or why.

Also, I haven't come up with cool names for things or people yet.

**Background**

The story takes place in a vaguely Regency era fantasy setting. There is a sort of parallel dimension that exists alongside the normal world. It can be accessed at certain physical locations, but also through things like eldritch knowledge and even dreams. People who enter are inevitably changed. Sometimes that means eldritch power or knowledge. Other times, it means turning into a fucked up monster or going crazy. Interacting with fucked up.monsters and eldritch knowledge at all can sometimes mean being altered.

There are hunters who deal with eldritch monsters, both inside and outside the outer dimension. There are also eldritch scientists who want to use knowledge and resources from the outer dimension for their own ends.

Premise

A walled capital city has been cut off from the outside world by eldritch magic. The wall was intentionally infused with eldritch magic to block off the city in case of an eldritch emergency, and reports indicate there was definitely some sort of rising panic in the streets before the city was cut off.

The government wants to get a team to get in and figure out what's going on inside. The catch is, best government hunters and eldritch experts were in the city, and a not inconsiderable amount of non-governmental hunter organizations.

So the government grabs a handful of eldritch professionals in the nearby area and promises them an exorbitant amount of money to go on, figure out what's going on, contact the official government eldritch experts, and report back.

The story would follow the ragtag group going into the city.
