Constipated Cat

Hi

Desperately need some help and advice for my 5 year old cat. From beginning of May my cat had 2 bouts of loose stools which stopped and then turned to constipation and then also resulted in idiopathic cystitis.

He was hospitalised for 2 days to clear the stools with an enema and have his bladder manually drained. My cat is now on Cytease (uk only) which was recommended by my vet and is on Gabapentin 2ml twice a day for his anxiety as he’s always been a nervous cat.

However the constipation issue is never ending. After his first clear out, he went right back to being constipated. I cut him off his dry kibble even though he was only having 10g a day a long with 2 pouches of wet food.

He still didn’t poop, so vet prescribed Lactulose and Cisapride. Those 2 combined worked once and that was the 16th of May, he had a massive poop.

Since the 16th, he hasn’t gone since and the Lactulose and Cisapride hasn’t worked either. Vet then prescribed me Polyethylene Glycol which is Miralax in the US. He started this powder on Monday which was the 18th at 1/4 teaspoon 3 times a day and nothing is happening.

I’m also adding water to his wet food, giving him cat soups and broths to get as much hydration has possible.

My insurance is £7k, my vet has wasted over £3k just on drugs, enemas and consultations. She said if he continues she would do a scan and said it could be start of Megacolon, issue is, she never did the scan that she said she was going to do!

He‘s seeing a different vet tomorrow for a second opinion as I feel the first vet is just wasting my insurance money at this point and not getting to root of the problem.
