Found a canarie on the street UPDATE

Hey there,

I’ve got an update for the canarie we found on the street ! My husband named him Alfred, short: Alfie. We got him to the vet. He has a hurt foot and megabacterias. We got medicine for him and we also have an appointment at the vets in two weeks. We made a post in a lot of ‚lost pets‘ community’s and also registered him on a few websites for lost pets. In addition to that we reached out to our local shelter. We hope we’ll find his owners, but to be honest: every hour that passes we lose hope to find his home. But we’ll keep trying. We’re also pretty sure that he’s a guy. He started chirping this morning and he’ll not stop hahaha. He seems very well at the moment. He started preening, singing, flying and jumping inside his little quarantine cage (picture 3). He’ll get a bigger cage which you can see on picture 4 soon. The shelter also told us that we should reach out to them when we decide to keep him, so he can get a friend. Keeping him is a decision we‘re a little bit stressed about to be honest 😂 We do have a two bedroom apartment with an additional living room. Bedroom one ist just for our budgies 😂 in our bedroom we do have a gerbil cage and we also have a dog. He’s friendly with birds and doesn’t give a shit about them so we’re not that worried about him. We just got five budgies to add to our group of four who are currently in quarantine. The quarantine cage is the one you can see on the fourth picture and it’s currently located in our living room. After quarantine the budgies will move to the budgie room and Alfred would move into the big cage in our living room. Our main struggle is that we‘re afraid the cage is too small for him and his potential friend. The cage is about 55,1 inches (140 cm)high, 39,5 inches (100cm) wide and 27,2 inches (69 cm) deep. We also would make sure he gets to free fly around our living room every time we’re home (and also would ban our dog from the living room if the canaries are out). I think we struggle with keeping him because we do have really high standards for owning pets. Like I said the budgies do have their own room. The canaries would only have the cage and free flight when we’re home. Any advise or opinions from experienced canarie owners would be so appreciated! Thanks a lot !

Hey there, fellow budgie dad here. My husband and I just found this little guy on a side walk. I brought him home and put him in our budgie carrier. It’s currently 10 pm where we live so we can not get him to a vet. We will get him to a vet first thing in the morning. We gave him some water, millet and the seeds we do have for our budgies. He eats and drinks and seems to be fine. At least what I can say. I do have budgies and know what a sick budgie looks like but I don’t know if canaries show the same symptoms. Any ideas? Is it a good sign that he’s eating ? I know for a budgie it would be a good sign ! I am so sorry for my crooked sentences. I am stressed and not a native speaker haha. His feet is a little bit crooked and he doesn’t put pressure on it but this is something the vet will take care of tomorrow morning.

Any type of advice is very welcome !!! Thanks !
